I came across Clive this morning. It's actually a lovely name, easy to spell and pronounce, yet really not that common anymore.

rattymcratrat · 16/03/2021 11:37

From the suggestions so far I like- Finn, Sidney, Samuel and Bertie (Albert?)

Definitely not Clive Confused😂 but thank you!

Nothing wrong with Clive.

I would go Albert with nickname Bertie if you choose that as gives him option of being Al when he's older.

Ooooh, yes, @BaronessBomburst - Clive is a great suggestion and very underused. It makes me think of someone very strong and tough, but loyal, with a sensitive streak.

Violetlavenders · 16/03/2021 14:08

Another vote for Clive. It sounds strong and refreshing in comparison to the cutesy Alfie, Charlie, Billie names.

CrabbitArse · 16/03/2021 14:20

If DD was a boy she would have been Clive, I agree it's a very strong name, sadly underused these days & definitely due a comeback

rattymcratrat · 16/03/2021 16:41

Sorry- but it just makes me think of Robert Clive, and I'm not really a fan of British colonisation in India (or anywhere else)

Now "clove" on the other hand....but it seems like a Girls name....

OP posts:
BaronessBomburst · 16/03/2021 17:25

That makes me think of oranges, Christmas, and punch. Not a bad association. Smile
Clover is nice but more Watership Down/ a cow.

Astraturf · 16/03/2021 17:40

Clive was on my list for a boy but I had a girl.
It's a lovely name would stand out among all the Alfies, ralphies, reggies, etc etc

Astraturf · 16/03/2021 17:44

Ooh I also like Clyde.

sarah13xx · 16/03/2021 17:51

I think Finn is the nicest of the suggestions so far, love that name but it’s already used in my family so I can’t use it 😭
Also like Quinn
Freddie was a maybe for me but actually feel like it’s grown on me since seeing Christine Lampard has used it for her wee boy

The rest of my list:
Vinnie
Harris
Reggie
Jenson
Roman
Theo
Rex
Rowan
Felix
Ralph
Jax
Rafe
Rudi
Jasper

BasiliskStare · 16/03/2021 17:57

Hugh
Hugo
Hamish

ignatiusjreilly · 16/03/2021 19:29

Ooh yes, I love Clive! What a great suggestion. I will add that to my list for DS2.

DS1 is Clovis... maybe that would suit you, OP? Clovis was a Frankish king, leader of the Merovingians during Roman times.

Clovis and Clive sound great together.

RocktheLockdown · 16/03/2021 21:07

Hmmmm, I'm not sold on Clive - I think its maybe the male equivalent of Gertrude? Actually a nice name, but probably not due for a massive resurgence in popularity for another 10-20 years or so. (A bit like Florence, Bertie, etc are all v popular now)

What about Cliff?

ignatiusjreilly · 16/03/2021 22:07

I've never been keen on Cliff. It strikes me as the name of someone quite arrogant, a big beefy type with weird facial hair. But maybe that's just me.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 16/03/2021 22:10

Fraser
