Does Gwen need a longer full name?

Seriously considering Gwen for DD due in spring. Really not keen on Gwendolyn, Gwenna etc.

Any others that I might not have heard? Does she need a longer full name?

Gwenllian? Gwenan?

GwendolineWindowlene · 08/03/2021 20:05

Of course she does, don’t be mean. Wink

ILoveStickers · 08/03/2021 20:05

Doesn't need a long version, no.

Though Gwenno is pretty cool.

Ginnywoofly · 08/03/2021 20:25

Gweneth/gwyneth or too synonymous with Paltrow?

endofthelinefinally · 08/03/2021 20:28

Gwenda is nice.

CityDweller · 08/03/2021 20:28

I know a Gwen. Not short for anything. She chose the name herself too. I think it’s cool.

Snowball70 · 08/03/2021 20:28

I love Gwendolyn 🌺

Vanannabananna · 08/03/2021 20:28

I know a little gwen, just gwen. She suits it very well.

mnahmnah · 08/03/2021 20:29

It doesn’t. But I think Gwendoline has a lovely sound to it.

WireFan · 08/03/2021 20:29

Gwennan
Gwenno
(Ma)gwen
Gwenllian

Palavah · 08/03/2021 20:29

@GwendolineWindowlene

Of course she does, don’t be mean. Wink
Tee hee
YouDoNotHaveTheAuthority · 08/03/2021 20:30

The ones I've known have been Gwenllian, but it's a Welsh speakers name then.

Palavah · 08/03/2021 20:31

No she doesn't. Gwen is fine by itself because it's not so cutesy that it needs a more grown-up version

Greenmarmalade · 08/03/2021 20:32

No, you choose whatever you like. I think Gwen is cool.

pumpkinmamma · 08/03/2021 20:36

@GwendolineWindowlene

Of course she does, don’t be mean. Wink
Hahaha Smile

I like that it’s short and punchy. And obviously with a name like Gwen she’d grow up to be super cool as well!

She doesn’t need one but be nice to give her the option.

LAPISLAZOO · 08/03/2021 21:03

Not necessarily but I've always been fond of Gwenchi.

Poppins2016 · 08/03/2021 21:13

Gwyneth, Guinevere or Gwendoline might be alternative long names.... I quite like adaptable names (ability to use long name/short name/nickname) but there are pros and cons...

I ended up using 'just' a shortening (along the lines of Ben rather than Benjamin) for my child!

People are OK with "Wren" so why not Gwen?!

DinosaurDiana · 08/03/2021 21:15

I prefer Gwen to the longer names.

DragonPoop · 08/03/2021 21:31

I prefer just Gwen more than any longer versions

user1493494961 · 08/03/2021 21:40

I know a lovely Gwenan, I also like Gwenno.

averythinline · 08/03/2021 21:43

Gwen is a great really like it...although also like long names so Gwendolyne slightly edges it

mrurddhasabitpart · 08/03/2021 21:45

Gwen is enough imo. It originated as a shortened name but now it's widely used as a singular whole name. Very common in my South Wales town

FromDespairToHere · 08/03/2021 21:59

I know a Gwen in her 80s and it's not short for anything. If it's Gwen that you like, rather than Gwendolin or something, then call her Gwen!

DramaAlpaca · 08/03/2021 22:01

No, it's fine as it is.
