Seriously considering this name. I see it suggested in passing a lot on here but not really discussed, so wondering what people's thoughts are.

I like that it's simple, no abbreviations, pretty timeless. Only been in the top 100 one year (60s).

However it is hard to imagine a baby Guy and it does sound quite middle aged.

I felt the same about Ds1 similarly "dated" name (John) and we get lots of Hmm looks and "oh my uncle/grandad/dad is called John", but I like that we haven't met another and everyone can say and spell it.

I know three brothers (2 are now at uni and another one is finishing secondary): Guy, Max, and Hugh. I always thought they had really good, solid, classy names. Guy's a good one.

This was my first choice for my first son but vetoed by DH as he had a wanker customer called it . I love it .

I half like it. I half don't. I think it has the word 'that' hanging in the air before it. or 'which'.

But if you have a John you have gone down that road of simple names from times past. What about Rob, Saul, Mike or Greg, I think John and Hugh would really work well. Hugh sounds more like a name than Guy.

I love the name Guy - unusual these days too. Every other bod is called Sam or Ben or Tom etc

Thank you, some very helpful thoughts. Nice to see that it is generally but not universally liked - a nice balance.

We want a name that isn't a "short" but can't be shortened so Will, Tom etc are out.

I like it. I agree a baby Guy is harder to imagine, but a person is only a young child for a very small percentage of their life. Much better to have a grown up name than a permanent baby name - I really can't imagine a hulking-great, spotty, grumpy teenager would appreciate being called Teddy for example.

I adore the name Guy. It makes me think of Guy Pringle in the Balkan Trilogy by Olivia Manning (which I massively recommend if you haven't read them!)

I don't like it because it's never seemed like an actual name to me. It'd be like calling someone Lad or Bloke. But then I can't imagine it being used in Ireland, so maybe that association doesn't happen where you are.
