Thoughts on Fletcher

What are your thoughts on the name Fletcher for a boy? Me and DH have just come across it and quite like it but have never met a Fletcher before, so we are curious about people’s associations with it.

Too much like a surname .

For a surname.
I dunno, I just don’t like the way it sounds, but each to their own.

I’m not usually one for surname-ish first names but I quite like this one!

I think I knew him at university....

I rather like it. I know one, aged about 30, so it seems a normal name to me.

I like it, does remind me of Ronnie Barker's character in porridge though

I'm not mad keen on mediaeval job title names. I would think of the character known by his surname in Porridge TV programme but that is decades old and noone younger would think of it. Fletcher Christian is the only other I know of.

Having said all that I think it's okay!

I actually like it better than other job type surnames used as first names eg. Cooper.
And who doesn't want to be named after an arrow maker?!

I really like it, but we like surnames for names... it was on our list for a while but have settled on something different.

It's a bit too surname for me personally (I'm often wary of surnames/occupation names as first names in case in a decade or two they start to feel downmarket the way similar Tyler, Mason, Ryan etc do to some people - it's a risk imo).

If you really want a surname type name though, nicer sounding ones to me would be Fraser, Sullivan, Maxwell, Brodie, Blake, Elliot, Heath, Lewis (I'm aware some of these are very popular as first names too, but for a reason I think).

I know an 8 year old Fletcher, I like it but I like surnames for first names (both my sons have surnames for first names)

I don't know who/what Fletch The Lech is and doubt any kids would know either.

It's a good name, go for it! Different to Harry, George, Oliver at any rate!

Fletch the Lech was a character in Prisoner Cell Block H.

I know of a dog called Fletcher....no humans though.

I don't really like surnames as first names, but I've always loved Fletcher. I doubt any of his friends will have even heard of prisoner cell block h, so I wouldn't let that put you off if you love the name.

I'm in the minority but I like it 🤷‍♀️
