Just that really. What do you think?!
Or Tamasin is nice too.

Not so keen on Tamsin ...

I think Tamsin is lovely. Not sure about the others tbh.

Chunkymenrock · 03/03/2021 12:50

Tomasin is not nice! I know someone called it and no one ever understands what she's saying. Tamsin is lovely!

BastardAnts · 03/03/2021 12:59

I really like it. It’s pretty to look at.
Is it pronounced ‘Thomas-in’ to an English speaker? I have seen ‘Thomasine’ before in UK which is more -eeen sounding at the end.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/03/2021 13:16

I don't mind Tomasin (neither love, nor hate), although like pp I've only seen it spelt Thomasine before.

Not keen on Tamasin - I think it will get confused with/look like a misspelled Tamsin (which I do like, although I understand you don't).

Nell96 · 03/03/2021 15:29

No keen on either. I know a Tomasin, she hates it and changed it to Tamsin.

partyatthepalace · 03/03/2021 22:01

I think it’s neither one thing nor the other - falls between Tamsin and Thomasina

It’s not especially nice, a bit awkward to say and people will mishear and mispronounce it constantly. Thomasina is pretty though.

DragonPoop · 03/03/2021 22:03

Thomasina is nice, Tamsin is nice
I don’t like Tomasin or Tamasin at all personally

WonkyCactus · 03/03/2021 22:03

I would have assumed Tomasin was a boy's name. Tamsin is nicer IMO.

BusinessGoose · 03/03/2021 22:34

I love Tomasin so much. There is something so unique but normal about it. I think I first heard it in the movie The Witch and there is also a young Kiwi actress called Thomasin McKenzie. I didn't realise there was any other feminine version of Thomas other than Thomasina which I don't like at all. Tomasin or Thomasin is definitely fresh without being made up Smile

2kidsintow · 03/03/2021 22:44

I'm a Tamzin. Usually threads on here are full of dislike for Tamsin/Tamzin so that's nice change.

Smilingdonkey · 03/03/2021 22:53

Yes sorry I think I probably would spell it Thomasin on reflection.

I know it from Hardy's Return of the Native and then saw the actress when googling too!

I quite like Tamasin as a variation. Daniel Day Lewis' sister is the only one I could find!

DP will reject it I'm sure as he won't anything he hasn't heard used (but likewise won't consider any name if he knows someone personally called that name) 🙄🙄

Thomasina sadly makes me think of that old film about the cat and I can't help but sing the song everytime I hear it 🤣😫

I don't like it - it feels to me like you were hoping for 'Thomas' and decided to stick with the name anyway.

I suspect any girl called Thomasin would spend their life having to give their name as
"Thomasin. Yes, the name Thomas with the word in on the end. No I don't know 'where it comes from'." Every. Single. Time. they give their name anywhere.

I saw on a thread the other day, the suggestion of introducing yourself to people as if that were your name for a month or so, and gauging the reaction. Not as many opportunities during the pandemic, but a great idea when people are asking about unusual names.

Firebird83 · 04/03/2021 19:51

Thomasin is lovely! I like Thomasine and Thomasina a lot too.

CakesOfVersailles · 04/03/2021 19:54

I quite like it - spelled with the H though. The only young Thomasin or Thomasine I know of is the actress Thomasin McKenzie.

CakesOfVersailles · 04/03/2021 19:55

Tamsin is the traditional nickname for Thomasin or Thomasina though so if you don't like it you might have to think about what nicknames you do like.

ElMacchiato · 04/03/2021 20:02

I like Tomasin and Tamsin. Wanted to call one of my dds Tamsin but it was vetoed sadly.

Also like Tana and Tanzie .

VegetarianDeathCult · 04/03/2021 21:12

I like Thomasine.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 05/03/2021 04:20

Tomasin?! No! Tamasin, still no. Of all the nice names in the world. Is Tamasin even a name? Both names sound like a product to clear up something unpleasant. "Have you got an Tomasin I can use? I've got a really bad spot" or, "Can I have a Tamasin? I've got really bad heartburn"

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 06/03/2021 07:44

The last syllable of Thomasin will get lost in busy classroom or playground or on a poor phone line and just sound like Thomas, which is still very popular. Thomasina has a clearer distinction.

VenusClapTrap · 06/03/2021 07:52

I love Thomasin/Thomasine

Scarby9 · 06/03/2021 07:55

I know a Thomasin (also named for RotN and lucky not to be Bathsheba). She went by Tom briefly in her teens, but has settled into her full name again now as an adult.
I like it.

SwimmingInToys · 06/03/2021 07:57

Not keen. As a PP said Tomasin sounds like a boy's name and Tamasin sounds like something for thrush.

lovablequalities · 06/03/2021 08:02

There's a Tamasin in the Shardlake novels by CJ Sansom. I assume it's a very old name because the books are set in the Tudor period and are meticulously researched.

I quite like it.

zingally · 06/03/2021 15:14

I wouldn't immediately know if Tomasin was a boy or a girl...

Tamsin is pretty as is.
