Fae - can it be a nickname?

Looking for name that you can plausibly use nickname Fae out of it.

I have thought of Rafaela, Freya, Faelan, Faerie/Faery/Fairy & Phoebe
Fairy and it's variants are big no to be in terms of usability, while Faelan is boys name in Ireland, meaning wolf and I feel iffy about this. Phoebe is name I like, but not that much, while Rafaela is pronounced Rafa-ella, instead of Raf-ella.
I do like Freya nn Fae, but I obviously need no nickname for Freya

what bothers me about Fae is that, based on pronunciation, it's barely three sounds - F-A-Y or maybe F-A, depending on accents... so I'm debating about Fae's usability.
I do not like Fay or Faye.

I know someone called euphemia, who goes by fae or phamie.

*based on my experience working with kids:

  1. kids vocabulary isn't that advanced
  2. when they bully someone, they mostly care about focusing in other traits/picks, names are usually ignored
  3. contrary to popular opinion, they aren't that creative*

Are you working with baby goats?

Evaevap · 01/03/2021 15:52

How about using it as a middle name instead if you want a longer first name?
DD has a long first name and Fae is her middle name, we call her Baby Fae all the time.

imalmostthere · 01/03/2021 15:58

I really don't get why you'd try find an entirely different name, just to use the name you like - just name her Faye? It's a name on its own! No other name makes sense for it to be a nickname other than faith.
Something like phoebe, makes no sense at all, and it won't catch on. You may as well just name her what you want to call her, rather than pull a nickname from a name that simply doesn't work.

nah, with human kids, I'm employed to work as psychologist. Most of kids I worked with are either bullies or victims. Believe me, bullies care more about easy pickings... so, kid can have unusual name, but if kid's well spoken, that's usually all it takes for bully to ignore him/her. also, when it comes to things bully wants to joke about on something, unusual name is thing bullies pick up last.

I know a young Faye (not had any name issues that I know about and in my experience many of that type of bullying starts from adults) and I've heard of Faeryn as a unisex name which might have potential if you want a slightly longer full name.

nocoolnamesleft · 01/03/2021 16:20

You think being well spoken stops you being bullied? That's very naive.

thank you, I do like Faeryn. Maybe I should take it to next level with Faerune, but maybe it would be too much.

most people have idea that every joke is bullying, but it's not like that at all.

No, I'm thinking about being followed home from school regularly, being spat at, taunted, hair singed by cigarette lighters, stabbed with pencils...for "talking too posh": does that meet your definition?

NoWayHosier · 01/03/2021 16:43

I love Rafaella. I prefer it spelled with a ph, but given the NN aspect, it's still lovely with an F.

imalmostthere · 01/03/2021 16:44

@MoonlightMagic your views on bullying are frankly very concerning, inflammatory and diminishing to those who have suffered bullying.

"Not every joke is bullying"
If every joke is at the expense of the same person, and is clearly upsetting them - then yes, actually, it's is bullying. It's very concerning you're working with children's mental health If you think being well spoken is your ticket out of being tortured through school.

bonfireheart · 01/03/2021 16:46

Having also worked with children, I can tell you that they do make fun of names, they'll it into a rhyme or a rude word regardless of whether it's another child or an adult.

blitzen · 01/03/2021 16:53

Not keen on the spelling as it's a bit like faeces

pshek86 · 01/03/2021 17:04

I like Faye but being Glaswegian fae is slang for from. So I would say I'm fae Glasgow......totally puts me off....sorry

My posts are actually really realistic. But I guess you don't like when actual facts are presented, and it contracts what you believes might be correct, so you just listed various adverbs to describe my "views". You are far from right and correct, anyway. Most importantly, your words are wrong, because I spoke very little. What exactly did I say before that warrants that strong reaction from you?

Bullying is something that happens over period of time. One time joke is something unavoidable, and can happen over various reason, like in disagreement or heated argument. Banter exist, you know.

www.bullying.co.uk/general-advice/verbal-bullying/
Is it bullying or banter?

I marked important part for those who don't
It can be confusing for someone to try and work out whether the name calling is banter or bullying. A young person going through something like this might feel intimidated or feel under pressure not to make a fuss because others are saying it is just a joke. If it is a one off incident then it may be that it is banter. However, if the name calling becomes persistent and regular, then this is bullying. It is equally about how you feel too, if it makes you uncomfortable and you have told them to stop but they are still name calling, then this is what we call verbal bullying. The verbal bullying can be anything about weight, appearance, racist, sexual or homophobic bullying.

Important things are "over time" and "still". Something that happen once is quickly forgotten.

when did we talk about physical bullying?
LadySorceress · 01/03/2021 19:24

anyway, I don't really care about this discussion anymore. It's obvious you don't have any experience with bullying, and I came here asking for longer forms for Fae, so this isn't something I'm interested in discussing with someone who wants to burden all kinds of bullying with name jokes.

bonfireheart · 01/03/2021 19:50

Fae-maria
Faeanne
Faemma
Faemogen

FurrySlipperBoots · 01/03/2021 20:01

Faene? It means 'Shining' supposedly.

DwangelaForever · 01/03/2021 20:05

That reminds me of the Tom Shields (I think) anecdote, glaswegian girl goes to a medical appt in London or something and is invited to sit down, "comfy? and we'll start" She's asked, "govan" is the response...
Angel2702 · 01/03/2021 20:25

If you're so sure in yourself, why have you changed your name??
