.......

It feels quite 80s but maybe time to bring it back?

I can’t get “she’s a man, duh” out of my head

Leeloo1233 · 29/05/2021 07:19

Amanda is getting really popular in Scandinavia, I think in top 30 in Finland and Sweden

Leeloo1233 · 29/05/2021 07:19

From Friends right? I do think of the same!

Amdone123 · 29/05/2021 07:28

Dated, which is a shame really, as the sounds are nice. Today's Amelia is yesterday's Amanda.

HuntingoftheSnark · 29/05/2021 07:45

Not that keen on Amanda because of the inevitable Mandy, although I have a Miranda and it's not that different really.

FriedasCarLoad · 29/05/2021 07:53

Love the name - beautiful meaning, plus every Amanda I've met in real life has been a lovely person.

SoapboxFox · 29/05/2021 07:57

I really like it.

CoffeeandCakeEqualsLove · 29/05/2021 07:59

I'm a mid-30s Amanda, and I never loved the name to be honest. I got a lot of “she’s a man, duh” when I was young.

I was Mandy when I was little and got to about 12 and decided I didn't like it, have been Amanda ever since. Though everywhere I've worked, after about a year some middle age man decides to try to nn me Mandy.

farmerswifey2 · 29/05/2021 08:18

I'm am Amanda - I've always been Amy for short, never Mandy.

Mimilamore · 29/05/2021 08:24

I'm a 66 year old Amanda, born 1954, I was called Mandy as a child but as I got older became Amanda.
I like it as It seems Everybody else from my generation were called Linda or Susan!

KenAddams · 29/05/2021 08:31

@OTTYrevolution

I can’t get “she’s a man, duh” out of my head
That was my first thought.. A man duh 🤷‍♂️ lol
Blueskytoday06 · 29/05/2021 09:32

I can't see it making a come back anytime soon.

Chickoletta · 29/05/2021 09:40

Have you seen Motherland?

Happycat1212 · 29/05/2021 14:41

I don’t like it and yes makes me think of a man duh!

LaBellina · 29/05/2021 14:44

I am not keen on the name Mandy so that’s what would put me off.

The name itself is very classic and therefore I don’t think it’s ‘outdated’ it’s just currently not as popular as it used to be at some point in the past.

Mimilamore · 21/08/2021 20:24

1954 Amanda here. I like it, saved me from being Linda, Pat or Susan!
I was named after Mandy Miller, child star, deaf....

Cbeebiesrehab · 21/08/2021 22:40

I can’t read it without saying ‘A…man…DUH!’ in Rachel Green’s voice.

woodfort · 21/08/2021 23:15

Clearly controversial but I don’t think I mind the nickname Mandy..!
The whole name seems very dated generally but there are many, many worse names.

Elspethelf · 22/08/2021 00:08

My name is Amanda and growing up I always wished it was Miranda.

ladycarlotta · 22/08/2021 07:34

I actually think it's a really lovely name if you can remove it from the 'came of age in the 80s' vibe. Dislike Mandy for that reason.
