Boy names to go with Matilda

PurpleFlower1983 · 18/02/2021 09:42

We have DD2 Matilda, we shorten to Tilda. Just found out DC2 is a boy and not sure about names! I had a girl’s name sorted 🙄😂.

None of those are a final list or anything and we’re open to all suggestions but so far we have:

Dexter
Flynn
Gabriel
Sebastian
Barney

I like classic names too but the problem is I’m a teacher and find it hard having any association with a child I have taught - I’d never taught a Matilda when DD was born and still haven’t.

Really like Matilda, I think of it as a mediaeval name... so old English names like Hugh, John, Arthur, William, Alfred, Miles/Milo, Edward/Edwin/Edgar/Edmund, Henry, Rufus, Guy... or English RC names like Dominic, Benedict, Thomas, Patrick, Augustus, Francis

Bluesername · 18/02/2021 23:55

I like Gabriel best of your list.

Julian
Oscar
Felix
George
Lawrence
Samuel
Alexander

CharlieBoo · 19/02/2021 00:02

Sebastian is lovely..I think James, William and George go well with Matilda x

I wouldn’t try and match your kids names. They aren’t a brand name 🙃Just chose the boys name you like the most and then double check it doesn’t sound silly with your daughters name.

AviciaJones · 19/02/2021 00:11

Gabriel is my favourite. I don’t usually like nicknames but Gabe sounds nice. Matilda and Gabriel...Tilda and Gabe.

We’re not, these are the names we would be considering regardless but I think if you know our first child’s name it gives an indication of the type of name we like. Sorry if my post was misleading.

I know siblings called Oscar and Matilda.

I think most names would go with Matilda

Ellmau · 20/02/2021 01:47

Gabriel and Sebastian are my favourites from your list.

Other possibilities:

Hugo
Felix
Jasper
Alexander
Rufus

Pinkychilla · 20/02/2021 01:55

Tayzonday · 20/02/2021 05:28

Love your list. We have a 3yo DD called Matilda, she’s also Tilda! When I was pregnant with DD2 our top boy names were Hugo and Vincent.

ProperVexed · 20/02/2021 19:35

I've got a Barney. He is now 23 and has always loved his name...he thinks that girls live it! After graduating he now has his first professional job and has used Barnaby on official forms/email etc but is still Barney to us and his friends.
Cracking name

HeadlessGummyBears · 21/02/2021 17:35

From your list, I’d say Sebastian.

Other suggestions would be:
Alexander nn Alex/Lex/Xander
Barnaby nn Barney?
Benjamin
Christopher
Daniel
Elliot
Frederick
George
Henry
James
Louis
Michael
Oliver
Robert
Thomas
William

PurpleFlower1983 · 24/03/2021 08:39

Our list is now narrowed to:

Matilda and Flynn
Matilda and Barney
Matilda and Barnaby (nn Barney)
Matilda and Theodore (nn Teddy)
Matilda and James (thrown in by DH)
Matilda and Jude
Matilda and Dexter

Why are boy names so much harder?!

@PurpleFlower1983 great list

Barnaby is my top pick

Love it

PandaFluff · 24/03/2021 10:31

These are my favourite of your list:
Matilda and Barnaby (nn Barney)
Matilda and James

CakesOfVersailles · 24/03/2021 10:35

I really like James.

Also Theodore.

I have surprised myself by quite liking Barnaby (nn Barney).

I also know a young man called Barnabas after the saint, nicknamed Barney.

PurpleFlower1983 · 24/03/2021 11:52

Barney or Barnaby (nn Barney) are definitely my front runners but I think DH is worried it sounds like a cockapoo. I’d be willing to just go with it!

There's loads of supposedly dog names that are popular now

Rory, Albie, Rex, Milo, Rufus, Sonny, Dexter, Oscar

All top 100 or rising fast outside the top 100.

Definitely stick with Barney / Barnaby @PurpleFlower1983

TatianaBis · 24/03/2021 12:08

Love Gabriel and Sebastian.

Like Flynn but it's very popular.

TatianaBis · 24/03/2021 12:08

I agree with your DH - Barney is a dog's name.

PurpleFlower1983 · 24/03/2021 13:21

@TatianaBis

I agree with your DH - Barney is a dog's name.
He’s imagining a big, fluffy cockapoo Grin
