Hi. Expecting first baby 😀 and found out we’re having a girl.

What do you think of Rita?
Any middle name suggestions?

Oooooh yes - like the PP - consider Vita instead, similar sound, means "life" and associated (for me) with the wonderful Vita Sackville West

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/02/2021 13:02

Rita Ora has put me off it, I'm afraid.

Timpeall · 15/02/2021 13:02

Would she though? I see Rita working in a mini cab office, wearing a lot of floral polyester, and getting in fights down Gala Bingo.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/02/2021 13:03

Vita is fabulous, though... I really like that!!

Timpeall · 15/02/2021 13:04

I like Vita too.

milleniumhandandprawn · 15/02/2021 13:07

I'm actually pissed off now I didn't consider Vita for my DD... missed a fab name there! Better have another kid.... 😂

RickOShay · 15/02/2021 13:09

Rita Valentina

UndeadSlut · 15/02/2021 13:11

My mum's name ❤️ and funnily, she's Rita Margaret!
She's also nothing like what Timpeall imagines 😂

sheslittlebutfierce · 15/02/2021 13:12

Rita Rae

Timpeall · 15/02/2021 13:14

Sorry, @undeadslut, for suggesting your lovely mum engages in violence in a bingo hall. Grin

Imissmoominmama · 15/02/2021 13:15

My sister is Rita. She’s in her 40s with a glossy brunette bob and has never had lipstick on her teeth! Hmm

TempsPerdu · 15/02/2021 13:23

Agree with the brash elderly bar maid image for Rita - not a fan I’m afraid (and I’m usually on board with vintage/retro names).

Vita on the other hand is gorgeous - was on the list for DD. And Zita is quite nice too. Would choose either of those over Rita.

clpsmum · 15/02/2021 13:25

I love Rita

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 15/02/2021 13:35

Dd had a friend in school when she was 6 who was Rita. She was very sweet and polite and was from Mexico.

partyatthepalace · 15/02/2021 13:38

I think it's time will come round, but I have to say it sounds very harsh to me, and just makes me think of knackered middle age barmaids from the 1950s, HOWEVER, who would have thought that Edith would be fashionable now

So, personally I would make it a nickname eg for Marguerite, so she's got some options, just in case Rita doesn't become fashionable and she doesn't like it.

mummaminnie · 15/02/2021 13:39

How about Rita May? Or Rita Fleur?

Mol1628 · 15/02/2021 14:05

I don’t like Rita but I do know a girl called Risa and I think that’s really pretty. It’s a Japanese name apparently!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/02/2021 17:14

Love pp's suggestions of the similar sounding Vita! Because Vita was never used very often, it doesn't have the dated feel Rita does in the UK imo - Vita is more bohemian cool.

Monkeytapper · 15/02/2021 17:14

Rita Elizabeth

Monkeytapper · 15/02/2021 17:15

Or how about Reeva instead of Rita?

Thebizz · 15/02/2021 17:17

I don’t like it at all sorry.

Jackieweaver.... has described Rita to a T!

Orphlids · 15/02/2021 20:51

I really like the name Rita, and I’d be delighted to meet a baby one. But yes, I agree that Vita is the better choice. The ‘v’ has the wonderful resonance as you say it, almost like a cat purring. But Rita is still smashing.

Hailtomyteeth · 15/02/2021 20:58

Rita Zeta.
