Harriet/Hattie

I’ve always loved the name Harriet and I like it’s nickname Hattie.

My DH hasn’t ruled it out but isn’t sure.

Can I have some honest thoughts please?

Absolutely lovely and very versatile for nicknames. I know a Harri, Harry and Hattie.
It’s a good, solid name without ever being in the top 20.

Gorgeous. Would have used it for dd had we not had a Harry.

What reservations does your DH have?

It’s my all time favourite girls name and I would have used it but had boys!
It’s a great name, suits a baby, young girl, teen and adult.
Hattie or Harri as nn’s.

I think it’s a nice name. I know three Hatties so it’s not super popular but not rare either. One of them is short for Harriet, the other two are just Hattie.

@Enidblyton1 he’s not a big fan of the ‘harsh’ t at the end of Harriet and he said ‘Hattie’ makes him think of hats : )

I really like it! I loved it as a middle name for DD but we went for a family name in the end - I would have been really happy with it though.

I had a great aunt named Harriett (note double t) - but always known as Tat. I presume your husband wouldn't like Tat/tattie either. I like the name.

What do you/he think about the softer Harri/Harry?
My relative is a Harriet and I remember her Mum was keen on Hattie, but that nickname never stuck. She’s always called herself Harri, despite her Mum initially calling her Hattie.

Beautiful name. I have one and it’s suited her as a baby, child, teenager and woman. It was unusual when I chose it but although it’s more popular now it’s never got over used I think.

One of my all time worst names. Hattie is just dreadful in my opinion.

I think they're both lovely, prefer Hattie of the two.

Harriet is a fairly steadily popular classic - and very Austenesque for me. It's not a name I'd use personally (I tend to prefer names with softer sounds), but I think it's hard to really dislike, and shouldn't date. I do love the fun nn Hattie more than Harriet, but I'd still use Harriet on the BC - more grown up and also gives her other nn options (like Etta).

Spoke too soon about people finding Harriet hard to really dislike even if it isn't a fave! What about the vintage, patrician Henrietta? Too much? Or perhaps the softer Juliet if you like Harriet?

It’s a good name - she could be Hetty or Harrie or Etta if he doesn’t like Hatty?

You could also give the full name Henrietta if that feels like a softer end than Harriet.

But if he really hates it you might have to think again..

What a lovely name Hattie is , yes go for it .

It's quite posh sounding (nothing wrong with that) but it's lovely.
