Alison - pretty, but a bit dated now. Don't like Ali as a nickname.

Andrina - don't like it.

DramaAlpaca · 04/02/2021 23:44

I'm not keen on Andrina, sorry.

I really like Alison. It's a very old name that goes back to medieval times and I think it must be due a revival.

ColdCottage · 04/02/2021 23:47

Sorry I agree with @WonkyCactus

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 04/02/2021 23:49

Very different names
Alison is a Scottish perennial
Andrina, how are you saying it? I’d say An Dree Nah I can see potential for An Dry Nah rhymes With Angina

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 04/02/2021 23:50

Of the two Alison. Imo

lilibillie · 04/02/2021 23:53

Thank you everyone, I felt a bit nervous asking but prepared myself for honest opinions and it's what I want...just a little hard to read. I am on the older side so perhaps that's one reason I'm drawn to Alison.

Would love suggestions. Quite keen on A names but not stuck on them...

Andrina reminds me of the “Drina” ballet books by Jean Estoril. It’s Italian - I quite like it. I definitely prefer it to Alison, which, as a pp said, is quite old fashioned now.

Cissyandflora · 05/02/2021 00:01

Adelaide and Adele are nice.
Alison is old fashioned but in old English she’s the beautiful woman isn’t she.
The other name andrina is it a made up name from parents Andrew and Tina?
I knew a Chanda made from parents Charles and Linda.

Cattenberg · 05/02/2021 00:04

The only Andrina I’ve ever known is Scottish. I really like the name. My gripe with Alison is that it looks like it should be a boy’s name. I feel the same way about Madison.

Bluesername · 05/02/2021 00:06

Alison

KindKylie · 05/02/2021 00:08

I used to love the Drina books - about Andrina Adamo and her dancing adventures! Drina Dances in New York was a fave!

Not keen on either name really though..

Alice/Alys
Anna/Annie
Arianwen/Ariana

Kayemm · 05/02/2021 00:08

I met a family with a toddler called Alison a few years back on holiday. It was after a fabulous Elvis Costello song. It's a good strong name.

Everyotherday · 05/02/2021 00:13

Adriana perhaps. Very similar to Adrina but personally I think it flows better and sounds nicer

Porridgeoat · 05/02/2021 00:14

Alice rather then alison

LetItGoGo · 05/02/2021 00:22

I rather like the name Alison. It's unusual for a child nowadays.

Not keen on Andrina perhaps because it's not so familiar to me. I would wonder if named after a grandma who had had a dad called Andrew!

I like Antonia.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/02/2021 01:48

Andrina is pretty but sounds a little odd to me- perhaps because similar names Andrea and Adriana are much better known?

While Alison is perhaps slightly dated, I don't think its extremely so - I know a couple of Alison's in their 30's. I wouldn't be surprised at a baby Alison.

I love pp suggestion of Antonia - I also love Annia, Aurelia, Alethea, Arwen, Alana, Alexandrine... there are so many pretty "A" names.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 05/02/2021 02:25

Sorry , don’t like either of them .

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 05/02/2021 04:40

I don't love either but they're not awful! They just seem a bit dated. If you like 'A' names, how about:

Alice
Adriana
Ariadne
Astrid
Athena
Alma
Alina
Anna
Ania
?

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 05/02/2021 04:41

Oohh Adelaid and Adele like a PP said are lovely! Adeline?

tawnytowel · 05/02/2021 04:45

Don’t like Andrina at all, can’t put my finger on it but it feels quite bland, boyish maybe?

Alison nn Ali is nice but old fashioned.

EdgeOfACoin · 05/02/2021 05:26

I like Andrina - it's the Scottish feminine form of Andrew.

It also reminds me of the Drina books. I prefer it to Alison and Adriana.

Queen Victoria's actual name was Alexandrina, which is not so different (but much frillier!)

Sunflower0000 · 05/02/2021 06:40

Andrina is ok if pronounced eena.
Dislike Alison, too 80's for me. Reminds me of women with perms and blue eyeshadow 😂 How about Alyssa for an alternative? Also agree that Alice is nicer

Synchrony · 05/02/2021 08:16

I LOVE Andrina. I've never met anyone who's used it. It does remind me of the Drina books.

Never particularly liked Alison tbh.

VenusClapTrap · 05/02/2021 12:50

I prefer Audrina to Andrina. Not keen on Alison.

A friend has an Alessia, which is quite pretty.

Ginisatonic · 05/02/2021 12:58

I don’t like the name Andrina. Is it Scottish? Alison is quite a nice name but all the Alisons I know are in their 50s and 60s. I love the name Alice and wish I’d used it.
