I was just thinking with Ella being quite popular what about Stella? I've always liked the name Estelle, there was a singer called that when I was younger. Doubtful I'll have any more now I have my two, just a thought.

Due? It's been popular again for a number of years.,...

Changeythenamey · 04/02/2021 05:50

Yes Stella will continue to regain popularity. I like Estelle too but it never seems to get much recognition.

ILoveStickers · 04/02/2021 06:46

Yep, it's already back!

LeonaMar · 04/02/2021 08:04

I really really love the name Stella, however my husband loves a beer and I just know if I ever had a girl people would think we named her after a can of Stella

MercyBodle · 04/02/2021 08:06

Already popular - say for the last 10-15 years.

DinosaurDiana · 04/02/2021 08:07

It just reminds me of beer. It’s like calling your child Chardonnay or Freixenet.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 04/02/2021 08:09

Yes, I think it will come back. It means Star

ThursdayLastWeek · 04/02/2021 08:11

My soon to be 4year old DS would have been a Stella.
I haven’t met or heard of any others in my area.

ellenpartridge · 04/02/2021 08:13

It's currently at 373 in the popularity chart so it's not particularly popular yet, though it's rising. I agree with you it has lots of scope to rise more and I could see it doing so.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 04/02/2021 08:17

I know 4 Stellas and 1 Estella under 6. (London)

MyNameForToday1980 · 04/02/2021 08:20

As PP have said, it's already back with a vengeance in London (I know four under 4s). That wouldn't put me off, it's a great name.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 04/02/2021 09:33

I love it and think it's already getting popular, especially in the US

HenriettaHeffalump · 04/02/2021 09:37

I know a few. I think its revival was about 6 years ago as the ones I know are the same age as DD who is 6 Smile.

I remember a poster on here losing her shit at people for saying it reminded them of beer! She was sending them personal attacks via PM and everything. My horrible cousin, who I had to go NC with, used it too, so I can't really warm to the name!

TempsPerdu · 04/02/2021 09:55

Agree that it’s been back for a while; I’m in London and know several little Stellas. They’re aged between about 4 and 10.

It’s one I should like but somehow always feels a bit brash to me - I think because of Stella McCartney and the beer.

gratitutesmynewgratitute · 04/02/2021 10:04

Oh I've not met any. Around here everyone has an yooniqik name with a ridiculous spelling. I'm on a new mums group and I cannot believe the crazy names. I like unusual but, not keen on place names or completely made up. Then everyone says wow amazing name and I'm like congratulations ( say nothing about the name) Although one person pushed me asking if I liked it and I said it was very different, I'd not heard it before.)

FluffyEggsontoast · 04/02/2021 10:20

@gratitutesmynewgratitute I'm suprised people on here think Stella is "already back" - it's outside the top 350 names and has been around that number in the charts for the past 20 years, so the name is not even on an upward trajectory

It's really not "back" yet in the same way as names like Mabel or Edith are, for example

gratitutesmynewgratitute · 04/02/2021 10:34

@FluffyEggsontoast I agree, but it is weird how names do seem to clump together in certain areas. Of course London will have more names as more people and people with such diverse backgrounds.

Stella is a family name in my family, although I wouldn't have used it for DC because I think they are a new person, however I really like it. And Corona didn't worry about being named after a beer too!

I'm near London fwiw

FluffyEggsontoast · 04/02/2021 11:23

That's interesting @HenriettaHeffalump that you've met a few recently! It's funny how that happens. Just checked the official numbers again and every year for the past 20 years there's fairly consistently been around 100 babies born named Stella. It's stayed that way for 20 years. So the name Stella is not even on an upswing overall, let alone about to boom

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/02/2021 11:26

Stella is one of those names that's always been around in low numbers - while it was more popular a century ago, because it never reached top 20/30 it doesn't feel linked to any particular decade imo to make a "comeback". It's a pretty name that's easy to say and spell (although I slightly prefer the more literary/poetic feeling Estella, weirdly I'm less keen on Estelle).

Quercus3 · 04/02/2021 11:32

I love Stella. We used it for our dog and I wish we'd saved it for baby now on the way! I liked it years ago when we first got the dog, but it's grown on me even more over time.

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 04/02/2021 11:44

It's a lovely name. A good strong sound. I know an adult Stellas and two small Stellas.

Not that recently. The ones I know are 6ish Smile
HenriettaHeffalump · 04/02/2021 11:45

I mean...I have met them. I don't know what the stats say. What do you want me to say 😂😂?

HenriettaHeffalump · 04/02/2021 11:48

I have met them...and one of them is related to me via gross cousin.
