To name Harry??

So me & my ex husband have a son together (he's 9), he has 2 other children (late teens/ early twenties). Me & my partner have a son together & another baby on the way. We don't know the sex of the baby yet but we've started to think about names. We had trouble naming our son as we couldn't agree, the only name we can now both agree on for this one is Harry but my ex husbands eldest is called Harry so technically mine & my ex husband son together already has a brother called Harry, would it be wrong for us to name ours (if its a boy obviously) Harry so my eldest has 2 brothers, well half brothers called Harry?

Oh that does make it difficult!

How about?
Reuben
Benjamin
Elliott
Freddie
Alfie
Lewis
Jacob
Archie
Noah
Isaac
Owen
Dylan
Lucas/Luca

Just some names I think work well with your DS’s names

LouiseTrees · 31/01/2021 00:14

Harry Lee doesnt even work that well OP

Popcorn24 · 31/01/2021 00:15

@donewithitalltodayandxmas

Your baby and as long as your son is ok with it ,do what you want. Your ex may think its a bit strange though , but if you don't care what he thinks either , then problem solved Can see why a ly/ lie ending is tricky
Nope, don't care what he thinks 😬😬

List of famous rolls with the surname Lee might help. There’s a few nice combos in there to me. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_(English_surname)

Popcorn24 · 31/01/2021 00:16

@Marrilou

I don't think it's appropriate for your husband to have two children with the same name. What about Henry instead?
I have an ex husband & a partner they are 2 totally different people, so no husbands anyway especially 1 with 2 kids called the same 🤦‍♀️ Cant stand Henry

Oh thank you, never even occurred to me to look at something like that 🙂

What about Finton instead of Finley?
I personally wouldn't have named my child the same as my ex's child but if the first Harry is a lot older and they don't see much of each other, it's not a major issue imho 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sunflower0000 · 31/01/2021 00:25

I know someone in the same situation as you, my friend has 2 sisters called Katie. One is from his mum (different dad) and one from his dad (different mum).
He just thinks it's funny and isn't bothered by it. It only came up in conversation a few years after I met him as it's not the first thing that he makes people aware of. I'd say go for it if it's the name you really like

Popcorn24 · 31/01/2021 00:28

Thank you all for your replies. We don't have a problem with it, technically the ex's Harry is nothing to do with me & OH, so just didn't want to deprive my OH of his favourite name but we've got a while to go yet so may even come up with another name or baby may even be a girl this time & solve the problem anyway x

Should have also said I spent 13 years working in childcare so alot of names I dont like because I've know lots of children called certain names before, anyone who's worked with kids will understand where I'm coming from 🤣🤣

Why not choose a different strong male name .

Tuesday12 · 31/01/2021 03:29

What about Harris or Harrison?

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 08:56

I wouldn't because it would make me feel weird, using my ex's baby choice for a new baby.

I don't think there's anything that terrible about doing it though. There are about eleventy million little boys named Harry. He will be one of many, so your ex won't object and you say you don't care anyway so 🤷‍♀️.

Could you ask your DS who is sort of related to the other Harry? He might find it a bit confusing and have to say Harry 1 and Harry 2 or something?

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 08:57

People who like the name Harry also seem to like Charlie and Max, so maybe one of those if you want alternatives?

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 08:59

Or Henry? Which is the original name. Harry is a nn for Henry, traditionally. I think (former?) Prince Harry is really Henry.

Edenember · 31/01/2021 09:01

I wouldn’t personally. How about Oscar?

BringBiscuits · 31/01/2021 09:04

I don’t see the problem with calling baby Harry is you want to. He might end up with nn little Harry or something but it’s not like they share the same parents.

Popcorn24 · 31/01/2021 09:09

@WellityWellityWellity

I can't stand the name Henry no idea why!
We had a whole discussion over Max with our other son, OH wanted Maximillion on birth certificate but shorted to Max for eveyday, told him we may as well just call him Max & put it on the birth certificate (I dont like Maximillion anyway so dont want it on birth certificate) an argument neither of us won so went with Toby. I do like Charlie but it doesn't go to well with the OH surname.
As for asking DS he doesn't know he's getting another brother or sister just yet but I may ask once we know if we are having another boy.

Yes if 'new' Harry had shared a parent with first Harry it wouldn't ever have even been considered but its my OH favourite name & we can't agree on anything else!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/01/2021 09:17

I wouldn’t call him Harry.

Max could be short for Maxwell or Maxim if you don’t like Maximilian.

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 09:20

I quite like Maxwell actually. Gets hated on here iirc.

Or how about Elliot(t)?

Popcorn24 · 31/01/2021 09:31

Can't say I'm overly keen on any of the longer versions of Max tbh, OH doesn't like Elliot(t)

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 31/01/2021 09:36

I think it’s fine. There’s a generation between the two Harrys and it doesn’t seem like they’ll ever be in the same room very much. The only person who it really affects is your eldest but I’m sure he can cope with adult big brother Harry that he doesn’t see much and new baby brother Harry who he lives with.

Tavannach · 31/01/2021 09:38

Mm, I wouldn't go with Harry.
