They are both lovely names, I think I would go for Josephine if it was me though.

Santaiscovidfree · 14/01/2021 09:54

Have you considered which nn each would have? June/Junie is awful imo. Jo /Josie are fine.

Ithinkhedidit · 14/01/2021 09:56

Much prefer Juniper. Josephine sounds very dated to me.

bourbonne · 14/01/2021 09:58

Josephine. It's lovely in a soft, old-fashioned, romantic way. And Josie is an easy nickname.
Don't like Juniper at all. It just doesn't feel like a name to me.

Marvelina · 14/01/2021 09:59

I love Juniper

toastofthetown · 14/01/2021 09:59

I prefer Josephine. Juniper seems almost painfully trendy to me, whereas Josephine is more classic.

galaxy9 · 14/01/2021 09:59

I like Josie but not Josephine and Juniper is a bit of a mouthful but it’s nicer

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 14/01/2021 10:01

I adore juniper, if I have a girl I'd call them juniper, its gorgeous!

ParisJeTAime · 14/01/2021 10:05

Josephine.

I also prefer the potential shortenings with Josephine.

ParisJeTAime · 14/01/2021 10:06

Not just Jo / Josie, but Fee and Effie too.

NataliaOsipova · 14/01/2021 10:07

Josephine, definitely. Classic, lots of potential shortenings. I think Juniper is awful, honestly. Really try hard.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 14/01/2021 10:09

You could go with Juno as a nn rather than
June. I've never heard Juniper as a name but if you like it then go for it. I'm not made on Josephine (nor Josie as a nn).

averythinline · 14/01/2021 10:11

Both...I slightly prefer Juniper as a name but the nn for Josephine..so would probably go for Josephine as most people shorten...

Although I know a fair few 3 syllable named children that always have the full name no nn

Juniper in my head is cooler/slightly more quirky..
Josephine more elegant/wafty/classic so as a a klutzy nerdy clumsy chunky family probably would go for Juniper as no child likely to ever waft.. :)

SlopesOff · 14/01/2021 10:27

Not Juniper, unless you want her called Ju, JuJu, Juny.

How about Jennifer Juniper, like the Donovan song?

missmillimentscardigan · 14/01/2021 10:35

I like them both, but I prefer Josephine, as I have a 2 year old Josephine! She calls herself Jos, but she's mostly known as Josephine. We called her Posy when she was a baby but we switched back to Josephine as we wanted her to know what her name really was! It's a great name that I think works for all ages, but I am a little biased.

ghostvillage · 14/01/2021 10:38

I don't like Josephine at all so Juniper.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 14/01/2021 11:00

Love both but Juniper might date as suddenly goy very trendy, whereas Josephine is more classic.

Love nicknames:
June, Juno, Junie for Juniper, and
Josie and Sephie for Josephine

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 14/01/2021 11:01

Oohh and Posy 😍

DotDotDotDotDot · 14/01/2021 11:01

I really like Juniper, it feels like such a young, fresh feeling nature name. I like the shortenings of Juno or Juni too. Maybe combine it with a more traditional middle name to balance it, not Josephine though as that would be a bit of a mouthful.

missmouse101 · 14/01/2021 11:55

I like Juniper a lot, although the 'nipper' sound in it is slightly off-putting. Josephine is very dated and I'm not keen.

Justcallmemamma · 14/01/2021 11:58

Josephine, beautiful name. It's my mothers name. If I had another girl I would use it. As others say I don't dislike Juniper I just don't like any of the nn

Jellington · 14/01/2021 11:58

Oooh I like Juniper. Wouldn't have thought of it. I guess it might get shortened to June so as long as you're ok with that, I'd say go for it!

DrBuckulees · 14/01/2021 11:59

Josephine, definitely. I don't like the 'nip' in Juniper, and wouldn't like Nippy or Nipple to evolve as a nickname.

RuthW · 14/01/2021 12:25

Josephine is lovely

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/01/2021 15:00

Josephine is beautiful - very classic but underused with so many nn choices for her to chose if she wants (I like Effie or Sephie myself but there's Jo, Joey, Josie, Posy, Gigi...)

Juniper is pretty but quite hippy sounding - I think a child would need to be fairly confident to pull off an unusual name like Juniper (and although the Juno nn is nice, Juniper doesn't have many nn choices) .
