Aurora Primrose?

What do you think? I love Rose as a middle name but it’s just so common, what do you think of Primrose as an alternative? Is it too similar or is it different enough?

It is quite pretty in a Disney Princess-y completely unrealistic sort of way

My DD said "so nearly nice but no. We don't live in a world with Aurora Primroses. Imagine when she is a grown up"

Imagine when she is a grown up"

That's exactly what I thought when I read the OP.
I can't bear cutesy little girl names. I know they seem sweet for a toddler/child, but some of these names are not going to command much respect when your offspring take up professional careers in adulthood.

Lunamaeve · 08/01/2021 15:52

I picked Primrose for her middle name because I thought it might be too out there for a first? People are naming their kids all sorts now days so I didn’t think it was that bad? Aurora is quite a sophisticated name in my opinion, my dad is Italian and it’s a popular Italian name.

They're both very soft and Princess-y for my taste. I'd go for one and then add a stronger sounding middle name.

It does sound very Disney as it is.

I do also agree with the other poster, think of her as a grown woman as well as a small cute child when considering names.

Rose I like. Primrose I don't mind. Aurora I just can't separate from Disney I'm afraid

pinkyredrose · 08/01/2021 15:53

It's beautiful!

Regularsizedrudy · 08/01/2021 15:56

It sounds like granny perfume

Terracottasaur · 08/01/2021 15:57

I find it a bit twee and try hard. I’d pick one rather than both, or it risks sounding like the kind of name a five year old gives her dolly.

Aurora is really popular now - that may not bother you though! I would say it’s more princessy than sophisticated, in the U.K. at least.

Primrose is pretty, and much less commonplace. I would pick Primrose as a first name and then something complimentary as a middle name, if you must have one.

Thirty2andBlue · 08/01/2021 15:57

I really don't like Aurora, and I definitely don't think Primrose works with it. I love the name Rose though!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 08/01/2021 15:58

I considered Aurora for my DD a few years ago, but Aurora and Primrose together are a bit too frilly and Disney-y for me sorry. I was reminded the other day when watching Sleeping Beauty with my DD that Aurora (the princess) is called Briar Rose for a chunk of the film, so not only is Aurora very Disney-y but coupled with Rose or Primrose it's even more so!

FurrySlipperBoots · 08/01/2021 16:00

I love Aurora but don't think it works with Primrose. Aurora Rosanna maybe?

SlopesOff · 08/01/2021 16:09

It would be good for a butter producer, has that kind of country, cow type feel. Not for a child though.

SlopesOff · 08/01/2021 16:10

Just imagined Jonathan Ross saying it Grin.

MargeryMcLatchie · 08/01/2021 16:12

DISNEY! that was my first thought.
Primrose I could live with, but not Aurora.

GlitterBiscuits · 08/01/2021 16:21

Disney Princess!

Or possibly dodgy porn star

Firebird83 · 08/01/2021 16:27

It’s more interesting than Aurora Rose.

Alwayswrongneverright · 08/01/2021 16:53

I really don't like either at all I'm afraid but I'd maybe pick a different first name and use one of them as a middle name

cheeseismydownfall · 08/01/2021 16:57

I don't like it at all I'm afraid. But I really dislike any name that a child has to live up to in some way, and which seem to be more about the parents wanting to look clever and interesting rather than prioritising what is going to be best for the child.

lucieinthesky · 08/01/2021 17:09

Both fine on their own, but together? Too much.

Lunamaeve · 08/01/2021 17:39

What about Aurora Rosalie?

OP posts:
IamnotwhouthinkIam · 08/01/2021 18:28

Aurora Rose is quite Disney princess and popular/trendy sounding but Aurora Rosalie is nice (as would Aurora Rosalind or Rosamund be.) Primrose sounds very stuffy to me, it's not my taste.

Namechange8471 · 08/01/2021 18:37

Id drop the Aurora, whilst I understand it's Italian it will always be associated with the disney princess in the uk/us.

Rosalie
Rose
Rosie
Primrose

Are all lovely

LightDrizzle · 08/01/2021 18:41

I agree that in the U.K. Aurora is very Disney Princess.

CorianderBee · 08/01/2021 18:44

If she's not girly she can just go by Rory as an adult so I think it's fine

aesher · 08/01/2021 18:44

Aurora just sounds like roar roar roar. I cannot see the attraction of the name. Primrose is ok.
