Aurora Primrose?

What do you think? I love Rose as a middle name but it’s just so common, what do you think of Primrose as an alternative? Is it too similar or is it different enough?

Disney. That is all.

Twickerhun · 08/01/2021 18:53

They all sound like cruise liners to me.

saraclara · 08/01/2021 18:54

@Twickerhun

They all sound like cruise liners to me.
Ha! You're absolutely right! Nailed it.
insancerre · 08/01/2021 18:55

I don’t get Aurora
I just don’t like it
It sounds like a wolf howling

KirstenBlest · 08/01/2021 19:10

Call her Aurora Rose.

I'm not keen on Aurora. It's the sort of name that if you only know one, it's nice but when there are several it's dull.

ElGuardiandenoche · 08/01/2021 21:08

As a nearly 60 year old Aurora I love my name and it's never given me any bother over the years. Most of my family and friends call me Rory. My middle name is Caron.

MercyBodle · 08/01/2021 23:37

Both lovely names and lovely together. I'm not into Disney so didn't know there was any princess link. Is that really a problem?

OP, you seem to have a strong sense of what names you love (I've followed lots of your threads) but a lack of confidence in your own choices. If a majority don't agree with your names you doubt yourself. Maybe it's just because I like your names very much that I notice how much you back off if the majority don't love them.

Anyway, I guess I'm just hoping that you follow your own loves and not be too swayed by other people, but maybe that's just because I love Primrose too!

CeibaTree · 08/01/2021 23:53

I think people should think of the grown up version of their child when picking a name. Aurora Primrose is a bit much together - maybe a different middle name so if she is a non girly girl she has a less frilly name to fall back on. If you want to stick with botanical names for a middle name how about Aurora Iris/Hazel/Willow?

lavenderlove · 09/01/2021 00:01

I think Aurora is lovely op. It reminds me of the Norwegian singer who's amazing! I don't really like primrose though. If it has to be Rose related I would just stick with Rose

maddsclairelouise · 09/01/2021 00:05

I absolutely love it! It's so pretty sounding!

TheRealBoswell · 09/01/2021 00:21

Aurora is lovely. It doesn’t just remind of Sleeping Beauty, it also mostly reminds me of aurora borealis and aurora australis which are what I’d think of first.

daisypond · 09/01/2021 00:27

I don’t like Aurora at all. The Italian pronunciation is different to the English one, though. Would you use that? Primrose, however, I really like.

ALightFromTheShadows · 09/01/2021 00:55

I quite like Aurora, and Primrose...but please consider that there's an awful lot of 'r's in those names- if your DD cannot pronounce her Rs, she's going to sound daft telling people her name (Aworwa Pwimwose)

Blondiney · 09/01/2021 02:14

Rosealita.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/01/2021 02:17

Love it.

Aurora is lovely and there's no reason a confident woman can't carry it off with style. If she thinks it's too girlie she can use Rory or similar.

Middle names are rarely used so it doesn't really matter and Primrose is lovely

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 09/01/2021 03:36

I considered Aurora as, in itself, it is a beautiful name. If it was very rare, it would still be a beautiful name. But after asking opinions, I realised that the sudden rise in popularity as well as the Disney princess link has made it seem a bit naff in a lot of people's opinions. (I know it is popular in Italy but I think it has a different vibe there). I like your middle name options as first names much more! I think Primrose is really cool.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 09/01/2021 03:37

And Aurora Rose has to be a big no surely? Sounds a bit tongue-twister-y. I have no issue pronouncing 'R's and yet really struggle to say Aurora Rose!

yulelogc · 09/01/2021 10:55

I actually know someone with a daughter called this, she's 2, it's just too much in my opinion, really don't like it... but each to their own. I like rose though.

Newfor2021 · 09/01/2021 11:00

I love both names. What about:
Rose Aurora
Aurora Rose
Aurora Rosa

M0rT · 09/01/2021 11:07

I don't understand all the "imagine she's a grown-up" comments.
I'm a grown up(at least adult age) and I don't know the middle names of my best friends let alone my colleagues!
Middle names are things small children talk about and if your catholic confirmation aged children.
I like Aurora Primrose OP, also not very informed on Disney so wouldn't make that connection. Although do get someone with the accent local to where she will grow up to say it if it's different to yours.
There are lots of names that sound better in some accents than others.

NeonSparkle · 09/01/2021 11:42

Aurora Rosalie is much nicer in my opinion. I like Aurora and I like primrose but together it’s just too twee.

NeonSparkle · 09/01/2021 11:43

Or Aurelia Primrose is actually lovely together!

MrsBungle · 09/01/2021 11:48

I love both names but it sounds a bit “much” using them both.

Iwantmychairback · 09/01/2021 11:52

This name always confuses me. Just how is it pronounced?
Aw-roar-ra ( is in, Aw I’ve hurt myself)
Or
Or-roar-ra

Either way, I find it really clumsy to say.

VenusClapTrap · 09/01/2021 16:50

The names don’t go together at all. Very different styles. Aurora is a big grand name that needs something very simple and short to set it off, like Aurora Jane.

That said, I really like Primrose - I’d use that as a first name.
