Albie or Arlo ?

HappyNYEvery1 · 31/12/2020 20:00

What do we think of Albie or Arlo?

Personally loving them, my only issue is I can picture a baby, young child and older man with the name... but not a teenager or young adult!

I do love the names but I’m worried will he suit it when he’s a teenager / young adult?

Anyone else loved names like these and named their child it without worry!

@KaptainKaveman

Very pretentious. Albert or Armand are much better.
I feel that albie and Arlo are the absolute opposite of pretentious...
bringle · 01/01/2021 15:48

@1940s what do you mean by that?

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 01/01/2021 15:50

I'd go for Albert with Albie as a nickname I'm not a fan of Arlo

Growingyou · 01/01/2021 15:59

If you don't like Albert as a full name, you could choose Albion. Both having nn Albie. I'm sorry, I just can't picture a young adult or professional man as Albie or Arlo. I know it's not the same, but Arlo reminds me too much of 'ello 'ello 'ello.

titchy · 01/01/2021 16:02

Watch the tv adaptation of David Nicholson's 'Us' for a teenage Albie!

bringle · 01/01/2021 16:07

I just can't picture a young adult or professional man

I think the same when I hear Elon, Larry, Warren, Jeff

Ismellphantoms · 01/01/2021 16:11

Sorry. Albie is a terrible name. Your child won't thank you for that one. Arlo is getting very overused. There are so many better names for boys. I'm old school and believe the classic names are more dignified; James, Thomas, George, William, Frederick etc. They can all be shortened.

bringle · 01/01/2021 16:14

Your child won't thank you for that one

But Frederick will?

paisleybandana · 01/01/2021 16:21

I'm not a fan of either. To me they sound like names for pets. Sorry!

Pretentious to me would be attempting to use names associated with the upper classes to impress or to even names from another culture to show affiliations or to make a point. Arlo and Albie are currently very trendy popular names and so I see them as the opposite of pretentious. Pretentious to me would be a pretty stereotypical tarquin or octavia

mummabubs · 01/01/2021 16:34

I love both, and maybe I'm bonkers but Albie made my boys name list ^because I'm a Conchords fan and I love their performance of Albie 😂

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 01/01/2021 16:36

I like both, but would go for Arlo as it will work better for a teenager, I think.

mummabubs · 01/01/2021 16:38

Another thing I meant to add to my post just now is please just choose the name that you like. You'll always find people on large forums like this who love and hate the names you suggest in equal measure. We had one wildcard name on our list when I went into labour which we actually ended up using, there were only 13 other boys given that name in the UK last year. I have no doubt if I posted it here I'd get loads of "Don't do it OP" but we love it and don't regret it at all 😊

Trizzledizzle · 01/01/2021 16:39

Not keen on either. Arlo is the brand of our CCTV & Albie is just right being teased.... I'll be alright/albiealright... I'll be there/albiethere etc

Meepmeeep · 01/01/2021 16:41

Both awful and overused at the moment.

bringle · 01/01/2021 16:42

@1940s so you think they are the opposite eg unpretentious & simple. Ok cool.

Twelve8Ts · 01/01/2021 16:44

I can’t believe people think in 20 years time when these babies are ‘young professionals’ that there will be no unusual names. Times are changing, wake up. Not to mention we live in a multicultural society where there will be many different names, it won’t just be Henry and George in the office.
This is why naming boys is so hard, as others have said, because of dated views like that and constant referral to future jobs.
I’m sure there are plenty of Freds, Jacks and Johns in prison too.

bringle · 01/01/2021 16:48

This is why I take umbrage with the name threads. They are very "little England" & often ignorant if not racist. I work in a professional environment in the city. It's very diverse & multicultural with all sorts of names Ive never encountered before but then I don't just work with old white English men nor would I aspire to.

Yes I think they are unpretentious, simple and maybe even 'overused' I would never say either are pretentious names.

CharlieBoo · 01/02/2021 22:13

I think Albie is lovely.. I love the name Albert so would use that on BC, could also use Bertie as a nn then.. agree also about no one will bat an eyelid at these names in working environments..

WellityWellityWellity · 01/02/2021 22:38

Arlo is fab! Go with Arlo

Whatflavourjellybabyisnice · 01/02/2021 22:49

Arlo is too wannabe trendy imo.
I know a friend's child called Albie and I think it's cute but not if it will be overused.
As a previous poster said, 'Armand' would be lovely but I've never heard it.... that will be part of the reason I like it.

Mummytobe05 · 01/02/2021 23:18

Albert gives him more options
Albie
Bert
Bertie
Albert

I'm not a fan of Arlo personally but there's nothing wrong with it just not my taste

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 02/02/2021 04:26

Arlo is better of the two. Albie is awful, I keep seeing it on here and really hate it, unless maybe a nickname for Albert or Alban?

What about Amos or Asher?

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 02/02/2021 04:29

Also agree both are VERY UNpretentious
