Hello, I'm wondering what people think of Saxby. A friend mentioned the name to me and now I can't get it off my mind. I'm not sure whether I like it or not and can't think whether I've heard it before.

Other names I like are
Jace
Roscoe
Abel
Simon
Timothy
Axel
Fred

Not very nice.

I’d go with Timothy.

Have you not heard of Saxby's Sausages, OP? Nooooo!

NeonSparkle · 23/12/2020 18:37

I hate saxby and jace.

Midlandsmum23 · 23/12/2020 18:43

It's the name of a village in Leicestershire, but not suitable as a baby name imo.

MrsGrindah · 23/12/2020 18:47

Sounds like a dogs name - sorry

user1493494961 · 23/12/2020 18:48

Simon is due a come back, nice name.

TheNortherner · 23/12/2020 18:51

Your child and their life, but reminds me of Saxby lighting
www.saxbylighting.com good lights though.

BuzzingTheBee · 23/12/2020 18:53

Awful sorry

BuzzingTheBee · 23/12/2020 18:55

Jace doesn't sound like a full name
Roscoe ok
Abel nice
Simon ok
Timothy ok
Axel like
Fred like

MiddleClassMother · 23/12/2020 18:55

Sounds like a town lol. Sorry. Simon is great though, It's time for a comeback.

LassFromLeedsWithALustForLife · 23/12/2020 18:57

Genuinely the worse name I’ve read on here. Your list is schizophrenic. The names Axle and Saxby (and I use the word “names” loosely here) shouldn’t be on the same list as Simon and Timothy (which are also terrible names, just in a different way). Out of everything you’ve got there Fred is the best but that’s like saying “of all the rancid smelling glasses of milk, I want to drink that one most”.

I apologise for my bluntness but someone needs to tell it to you straight on this one. It’s a human being you’re naming and Zowie Bowie and Dweezil and Moonunit Zappa couldn’t even pull those names off and their parents were legendary rock icons.

Please buy a baby name book and get some more mainstream inspiration.

Sunshineandflipflops · 23/12/2020 18:58

You have a few “wacky” names, and then Timothy and Simon, which are very 1970’s. E only people I know with those names are my age (early 40’s) and I don’t think they are retro enough to make a comeback yet (if ever) and I like traditional names.
I don’t like any of them, sorry.

Erictheavocado · 23/12/2020 18:59

I only know it as a company who used to be famous for their pork pies. I really can't see it as a first name at all. Sorry.

Ellmau · 23/12/2020 19:03

I like Simon.

LadyLazaruss · 23/12/2020 19:11

Abel is lovely.

MissSmiley · 23/12/2020 19:12

Awful, you're naming a child who'll have this name for his whole life, he'll be an adult for most of those years, it's not about proving how trendy you are, choose something reasonable

jambeforeclottedcream · 23/12/2020 19:20

Saxby. - no sounds like a place in Lincolnshire called Saxilby which was a nice enough place but not a boys name
Jace- awful estate agent car salesman vibes
Roscoe- reminds me of Roscoff it's a bit dig namey
Abel- ok
Simon- v. 70s/80s
Timothy- bit wet and 70s/80s
Axel- bad ass quite like
Fred- Frederick or Freddie but not Fred

Evasmissingletter · 23/12/2020 19:21

Saxbys make pork pies..... no!

RockyTigerScarf · 23/12/2020 19:30

@LassFromLeedsWithALustForLife

Flipping heck we have different opinions don't we! I do have a baby name book by the way, and 4 kids. In my original post, I did not mention that i was naming my child Saxby, I was looking for information on the name (or whatever you'd like to call it) because I knew I'd heard it in a place before but couldn't think what and I was wondering others opinions on it. Not quite sure what your problem is with me liking the name Axel but also liking the name Simon but that's ok. Thanks for the feedback everyone, have a good Christmas.

Axel is my favourite too. In a similar vein, what about Huxley?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/12/2020 20:39

Saxby is a place name/surname so I'm not keen (plus kids might call him Sexby). Of your other choices - Simon's okay and would be unusual to hear now and maybe Abel (although it's very biblical/religious sounding). Fred is lovely as a nn for Alfred or Frederick.

If you like less common names, what about Maxwell or Maxim or Macsen, Lev or Zev (or Xavier), Orin or Orion, Heath or Hugh, Cassius or Caius, Asa or Ezra, Ioan, Ivo, Iolo or Jago?

cheeseismydownfall · 23/12/2020 20:52

Awful names I'm afraid. This is a child, not something to be accessorised with a name you think sounds interesting.

Buttercup54321 · 23/12/2020 20:54

Saxby is a surname of a neighbour. The kids are teased with Sexy and Sacky.
Awful for them.

SimplyRadishing · 23/12/2020 21:30

My immediare thought is someone saying "I bought my sofa from Saxby"

Go for Simon or Frederick
