Ottilie or Lyla/Lilah?

I think we've narrowed our shortlist down to our favourite two. I personally prefer the 'Lilah' spelling, but I have put both down just for options.

Middle name is set in stone to honour a great grandmother who has sadly passed.

Ottilie Heather
or
Lyla Heather
Lilah Heather

Which do you prefer? Opinions? Or any suggestions to make me more confused? 😂

I prefer Lilah Smile

DramaAlpaca · 20/12/2020 19:21

Lyla would be my choice. It's obvious how to pronounce it.

Ottilie is very pretty if you happen to have a French accent, but not otherwise unfortunately.

Kanaloa · 20/12/2020 19:23

I like Lyla/Lilah. I think Heather is a nice middle name as well.

Kanaloa · 20/12/2020 19:24

I think both spellings are fine but would probably choose Lilah since I think it looks nicer.

Enidblyton1 · 20/12/2020 19:26

I like both your spellings of Lyla/Lilah
Only choose Ottilie if you live in an area where it will sound nice. Some British accents make it sound awful. And Americans can’t pronounce it at all!

Mrsmorton · 20/12/2020 19:27

I bloody love the name Ottilie

Enidblyton1 · 20/12/2020 19:28

Love Heather too

Peachbubble · 20/12/2020 19:30

I'd choose Lyla

CrispySeaweedIsReallyCabbage · 20/12/2020 19:30

Ottilie for me. I find Lyla very overdone...not because I know that many. I know two. But I also know children called Lola, Lyra, Lily, Lara, Elara / Elora etc. Ottilie, although not a new or 'out there' name, somehow sounds a lot fresher.

Enidblyton1 · 20/12/2020 19:32

If you like Ottilie, can I also offer Romilly and Cecily? Ottilie is becoming a bit overused in certain parts of London and Home Counties. I’ve met 3 toddler/baby Ottilies in the past few months. If that matters to you I would consider other similar, but more unusual names. Not an issue if you don’t live in the South East hot spots.

daisypond · 20/12/2020 20:07

Hmm. I really dislike Ottilie. Not keen on Lyla or Lilah either. Lyla is better, at a push.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 20/12/2020 20:23

I really like Lilah.

I don’t understand people’s love for Ottilie at all... it just makes me think of Otters. I also think it will be very dated soon as it’s got popular very quickly.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/12/2020 20:25

Lilah definitely, and this spelling seems less trendy to me. While I like pp suggestions of Romilly or Cecily (or Rosalie, Coralie?); Ottilie seems very "now" in certain circles - I think it might date more.

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 20/12/2020 20:27

Ottilie is lovely. I know so many lilas / laylas/ lolas it feels really done to me.

Nell96 · 20/12/2020 20:46

Lyla. Lilah is also nice. My friend named her little girl Ottilie recently and I remember finding it a bit cringey when she told me - can't quite put my finger on why. Definitely not a name I like.

Firebird83 · 20/12/2020 22:05

I only like the Lila spelling, and not keen on Ottilie.

TurkeyTrot · 20/12/2020 22:08

What about Natalie?

hugocat · 20/12/2020 22:15

How do you pronounce 'otillie' ?

BastardAnts · 20/12/2020 22:20

Heather is very pretty as a first name, could you have that, then maybe a longer name for middle, with ‘-belle’ in it comes to mind? Heather Annabelle, Christabel, Giselle, Estelle? I must be thinking of the lovely moorland flowers, Heather and Harebells.

partyatthepalace · 20/12/2020 22:32

Like Ottilie, but do think it’s hard to pull off in Non-French accent.

Really dislike the rest.

Sorry.

Lara? Lyra? Cecile?

partyatthepalace · 20/12/2020 22:32

... I mean Cecily...

Brighterthansunflowers · 20/12/2020 22:49

Really don’t like Ottilie

Lilah is much nicer

thismeansnothing · 20/12/2020 23:10

I like Lilah but prefer the spelling Laila it was nearly DD1s first name

Whatsyourflava · 20/12/2020 23:36

Love the name Ottilie
Never met one but have loved the name a long time

Not as keen on Lyla but love Delilah which you could use and have Lyla/Lilah as nickname

MercyBodle · 21/12/2020 03:34

I much prefer Lilah (either spelling). I just can't see any appeal in Ottilie (otter, utterly) at all.
