Thoughts on Tristan

Saw the name and it clicked, like this is definitely the right name for a boy. I just want to see what you all think, I'm cautious of the meaning but who actually goes around telling people want their name means. Thanks.

I’ve always loved it as a name. Solid, traditional, but you don’t get many. I only didn’t use it with both of my boys because of it’s association with something personal for me.

Grooticle · 20/12/2020 16:45

I think of it as quite a posh name, I’ve only ever met one though and that family was definitely posh.

Always think of Tristan and Isolde.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/12/2020 16:46

I really like it and the adult one I know is absolutely lovely, which makes me like it more.

ForestNymph · 20/12/2020 16:46

I'm related to one. Its a solid, nice name. The Tristan in my family hasn't got any complaints about it, its unusual but easy to spell and say, a good choice.

gassylady · 20/12/2020 16:48

Know two who are both lovely

SpiderGwen · 20/12/2020 16:59

I love it

BakedBeeeen · 20/12/2020 17:03

I love it too!

LubaLuca · 20/12/2020 17:05

It's a really lovely name.

Orphlids · 20/12/2020 17:08

I absolutely love it. I have an Isolde, because I so love the opera. Tristan is one of the most romantic names going. It even has its own chord! It’s one of those names that has wonderful historical and artistic associations, but is still a safe name to use in real life, without anyone thinking you’re bonkers. But it’s still unusual enough for people to notice and remember it. Go for it!

mintich · 20/12/2020 17:14

I really like it!

SilverOtter · 20/12/2020 17:17

I love it. I know a Tristan. He's not at all posh, but he is lovely.

Firenight · 20/12/2020 17:22

Its a wonderful name.

And Isolde was one the possible names for my daughter.

Cornishmumofone · 20/12/2020 17:38

I'm wondering whether it's more popular in certain areas. I know quite a few in Cornwall (most of them are late 30s, but a few are much younger).

PussyMalanga · 20/12/2020 17:44

Reminds me of sadness. Triste is sad in French.

Roselilly36 · 20/12/2020 17:48

One of my favourite boys names, I am surprised it isn’t more popular, I have only ever known one.

KevinTheCarrot12 · 20/12/2020 17:54

Hate it with a passion. No idea why. You did ask Grin

VenusClapTrap · 20/12/2020 18:05

Love it. Dh vetoed it as ‘too posh boy’ 🙄

Ellmau · 20/12/2020 18:05

I like it.

EBathory · 20/12/2020 18:06

It would have been my name if I was a boy, even thou my godfather said ' you can't call a baby tits & bum'

TheNanny23 · 20/12/2020 18:07

I love it but sadly the meaning weighs too heavy for me.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/12/2020 18:08

Not keen at all

Nohomemadecandles · 20/12/2020 18:09

I'm usually a fan of an unusual-but-not-madeup name but I don't like it.
I think it's the All Creatures thing rather than the and Isolde thing.
That's my age, I suppose!

Scottishskifun · 20/12/2020 18:09

I love it was due to be my sons name but somehow it just didn't suit him.

Flowerpot345 · 20/12/2020 18:17

It's a lovely name.

PlantPotting · 20/12/2020 19:37

A great name. Why is it so underused? It's lovely.
