Saw the name and it clicked, like this is definitely the right name for a boy. I just want to see what you all think, I'm cautious of the meaning but who actually goes around telling people want their name means. Thanks.

I know a little boy with this name and it suits him, not posh at all.

Also reminds me of Tristan & Isolde 😍

Is Ok.

But it’s a name perceived as uber posh I think. Personally find it slightly drippy.

RifRafia · 20/12/2020 19:54

I have one! He's primary aged, and we've not met another one yet. We are not posh either!

RosesforMama · 20/12/2020 19:56

It's a bit "wet....."

FippertyGibbett · 20/12/2020 19:57

I like it.

Amerimoon · 20/12/2020 20:03

It’s sounds like sadness to me. It’s the connection with “triste” in French, Spanish, Italian and so on. “Trist” in Welsh also means sad.

AnnabelDickson · 20/12/2020 20:10

I love it. I was hopelessly in love with Tristan from all creatures great and small so I might be biased, but I think it's a really cool name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/12/2020 20:16

I don't think meaning matters. I love Claudia which has a terrible meaning, and some of the most common/popular names around (like James/Jacob, Maria/Mary etc) have unpleasant meanings - most people either don't know them or don't care.

Tristan is lovely - a nice sound and an interesting story behind it. Yes, years ago it my have been considered a bit posh (as similar Tristam still is), but not any more - it's mainstream now imo, just not overused.

Frazzled2207 · 20/12/2020 20:18

It was on our shortlist. But we decided it was a bit posh (not necessarily a problem but we live in a very un-posh area).

CaffiSaliMali · 20/12/2020 20:52

I prefer Trystan, which is the Welsh version as it looks less like the Welsh word for sadness that way.

It's a lovely name.

Interesting to hear this name being described as “too posh”. Quite the opposite in my area.

BabloHoney · 20/12/2020 21:12

Love Tristan, was on my list for a boy but other half vetoed it!!

Mwnci123 · 20/12/2020 23:16

I like it. Not posh at all in Wales- just normal and nice.

Thisusernameistakenagain · 20/12/2020 23:20

I first hear this at high school when I met one. I was confused by it (he got called 'twist turn!' however despite the meaning (a lot of folk dont mind for meanings anyway)! I thik it is a perfectly fine name and if you like it, have it!

Indoctro · 20/12/2020 23:20

Cressie2 · 20/12/2020 23:31

Really like it!

JamieLeeCurtains · 20/12/2020 23:33

It's cool.

abigailthespiderinthehat · 21/12/2020 15:56

Gorgeous name, I would've used it myself if it didn't sound utterly ridiculous with our surname!

Whatsyourflava · 21/12/2020 16:08

I love this name.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/12/2020 16:11

Absolutely love it, my now 19yr old Dd would have been Tristan Benjamin

YoniAndGuy · 21/12/2020 17:56

Just lovely. It is a bit posh, but so many traditionally posh boy's names are mainstream now - think Hugo! - that I think it doesn't matter.
