Do you think Dora could be a full first name all on its own? My husband loves it, but I prefer longer names.

Please dont.

Liljan0 · 05/12/2020 04:44

I like it

Diverseduvet · 05/12/2020 04:45

Why don't you have Deborah instead?

Diverseduvet · 05/12/2020 04:47

Or what about Dominique, Dahlia or Darcy? You are looking for a name beginning with D aren't you?

babynamelover · 05/12/2020 06:42

I adore Isadora as a longer version or Dorothea is cute too.

Quercus3 · 05/12/2020 09:13

Dora is lovely

SilverOtter · 05/12/2020 09:15

It's not my favourite but I think it's cute, and I like that it's uncommon. Go for itSmile

TheTeenageYears · 05/12/2020 09:18

Kids are cruel and Dora the Explorer springs to mind

Catawaul · 05/12/2020 09:22

Dorabella is longer. I love both.

smaragda · 05/12/2020 09:39

Theodora and shorten to Dora:)

Whatsyourflava · 05/12/2020 10:02

Love love love this name
One of my favourites

I do like some longer names but many I find too frilly and complicated. Dora is beautiful

Sausagedog1 · 05/12/2020 11:34

I wouldn't choose it without a longer name. Isadora Dorothy Theodora

ParkheadParadise · 05/12/2020 11:36

No No No
Dora The Explorer

Nell96 · 05/12/2020 15:49

Theodora - then she has the option of Thea as well.

ArseyWelshNameBore · 05/12/2020 20:28

I had a think about welsh names and the only one I can suggest is Dona. Pronounced Donna, it's a saint's name. Delyth is the other one, nice enough but it is the name of a woman aged 50 or 60, not a baby.

Names that you could consider that are nice and underused are Dagmar, Dorcas, Dinah, Diana, Dina/Deana, Deanna, Dana, Dorien, Daphne, Dorothy, Delphine, Dolores, Davina

DramaAlpaca · 05/12/2020 23:58

I suppose you could use it as a standalone name.

I'm sorry, but I don't like it.

AugustL · 06/12/2020 02:11

Yeah, I think it's cute and nothing wrong with being an explorer.

Orphlids · 06/12/2020 04:48

It’s fine, although I’m not keen. It’s a bit boring. Dora even sounds a little bit like ‘boring’. I can’t seem to say it aloud in anything but an awful monotone, for some reason. But it’s inoffensive, and pleasant enough, I suppose.

VenusClapTrap · 06/12/2020 10:14

It’s fine. I much prefer it to long frilly names.

mammabear4 · 05/01/2021 10:58

I have an Isadora nn Dora. We love it. She suits it. It’s cute but not frilly!

She gets Isadora at school and some of her friends have even started calling her Issy which we don’t mind - she is a strong Dora at home though!

We love the vintage-but-unique vibe! She’s had “the explorer” a couple of times but she actually quite likes that - it doesn’t seem too popular over here anyway.

It seems like people fixate on that sometimes but Thomas doesn’t put people off with “the tank engine” or George with “curious” etc etc!

I say go for it and if you like longer names:
Isadora (obvs)
Dorabella
Adora
Theodora
Dorothea

PoodleMoth · 05/01/2021 11:34

I know 1 and she has rarely been teased about Dora the explorer etc. It is a lovely name and much prefer it to one of the longer ones. Isadora is nice but hate Izzy

Luckyelephant1 · 05/01/2021 11:49

I really like it as a standalone name, it's cute and unfussy. Would only be aware of the Dora the Explorer thing but it's not that bad if she is called that, being an explorer is a nice thing!
