Georgia and pronunciation?

Moonbaby92 · 28/11/2020 23:19

What does everyone think of the name Georgia? I've also heard it pronounced with the 'ia' slightly pronounced, as if it has 3 syllables. How would you pronounce it?

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/11/2020 23:22

poppy2021 · 28/11/2020 23:23

daisypond · 28/11/2020 23:24

Two syllables. I’m not keen on it.

Quornflakegirl · 28/11/2020 23:26

I prefer Georgina.

dementedpixie · 28/11/2020 23:27

George ee ah

DelurkingAJ · 28/11/2020 23:28

I just think The Beatles ‘and Georgia’s always on my miiiiind’ Geor-ja to me.

Carpetflowers · 28/11/2020 23:30

I’ve known one George -ee-uh but it want spelt Georgia.

anotherboyontheway · 28/11/2020 23:30

George-a... boring and dated name x

helloxhristmas · 28/11/2020 23:33

Jorg a

MintChocAddict · 28/11/2020 23:36

It's a lovely name. How it's pronounced by people around you will very much depend on what part of the country you're in.
To me it has three syllables but I'm aware that's because of my regional accent.

Brighterthansunflowers · 28/11/2020 23:49

Jor-ja

I’ve known quite a few and never heard of your pronunciation

Pemba · 28/11/2020 23:53

I'd just say 'Jor-ja', two syllables. Nice name, so what that it was popular in the 80s/ 90s?

I do slightly prefer Georgina though.

purpleme12 · 28/11/2020 23:54

Two syllables. I've never heard it pronounced any other way

ktp100 · 29/11/2020 00:02

Not keen on the 2 syllable version but the 3 is hideous!!!

elQuintoConyo · 29/11/2020 00:04

Jor-ja.

I had a friend named Georgiana - Jorjy-ana (emphasis on the first A) loved her name.

emilybrontescorsett · 29/11/2020 00:04

George a

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/11/2020 00:18

While you'd think logically it should be 3 syllables like Julia, Lydia etc, I've only ever heard it said as Jor-ja (even on TV when people are talking about the US state or the Country, so 3 syllables would sound a bit odd to me).

ClassyRodent · 29/11/2020 00:29

I would say jor-gee-ah, with an emphasis on the jor, with the gee-ah almost run together, almost jor-jahh but not quite.

newnewnewbuild · 29/11/2020 00:33

I love it.

I've only ever heard it pronounced like jor-ja

SenorFrog · 29/11/2020 00:49

Jorja, never heard it pronounced with 3 syllables. I've spent quite a lot of time in Georgia, that state rather than the country and never heard it with 3 syllables maybe a southern drawl but never 3 syllable.

DramaAlpaca · 29/11/2020 00:49

Two syllables.

I don't like it at all.

Georgina or Georgiana are beautiful and much classier.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/11/2020 02:24

Oh, and I agree with pp - even though I usualIy love -ia ending names, I actually prefer the more traditional Georgina (or if feeling brave, the beautiful Austen-esque Georgiana). For some reason Georgia feels a bit 90's to me. You could also consider Julia? (has a slightly similar sound to Georgia but is more classic).

August20 · 29/11/2020 04:25

Only ever heard it as two syllables: jor-jah

LaraLuce · 29/11/2020 04:59

Lovely name and in my opinion fresher sounding than Julia, Georgina, which are more 90's.
