Which do you prefer?
I would not shorten Vincent to Vinny.. just Vin if his name was to be shortened

Love Vincent!

Suzeyshoes · 27/11/2020 22:10

Vincent sounds French. Archie too popular.

MeMeMeYou · 27/11/2020 22:42

Vincent

BiscuitsUnited · 27/11/2020 22:50

Prefer Vincent by a mile!

DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2020 23:19

Vincent by a long way, I love it.

I can't stand Archie.

Scarby9 · 27/11/2020 23:22

Exactly the opposite of @DramaAlpaca!

DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2020 23:29
Grin
gurglebelly · 27/11/2020 23:33

Vincent just makes me think of some gangster from New Jersey (don't know why)

I know loads of Archie's so wouldn't choose that either

Sorry

Rockmehardplace · 27/11/2020 23:48

Oh I love Vincent!

MercyBodle · 28/11/2020 01:48

I much prefer the delightful Archie.

daisypond · 28/11/2020 06:08

Vincent. I really like it.
Archie is a non-name.

coffeewithmilk · 28/11/2020 06:21

My neighbours new puppy is called Archie.
Vincent isn't great either.. all that comes into my head is Vinny from Eastenders

Sorry OP. I wanted to be honest. If you are really wanting to use one of those names, I'd put it as a middle name rather than a first name

pilates · 28/11/2020 06:54

Not keen on either, sorry

Scarby9 · 28/11/2020 08:17

These two names really do seem to divide opioion - but pretty equally.
Once you name him, it will be HIS name, rather than a detached word. Either will work.

RedLimoncello · 28/11/2020 08:45

Vincent. Love it.

Felixfrank · 28/11/2020 09:01

@Scarby9

I know Archie always seems very unpopular on mumsnet but in reality it’s a very liked name so I don’t understand ha

Vincent is awful! I think it may be the one of the names I like least in the world. I’d put it in a pile with Keith, Malcom and Trevor. At the bottom of that pile.

Archie is not a name I’d choose but I don’t have such a negative reaction to it.

In the top ten trending baby name threads on here right now, three are about the name Archie!

Vincent

Archibald or Archie are awful imo.

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/11/2020 14:14

They're both bad.

Archie is disliked because it's twee and overused.

Awrite · 28/11/2020 14:16

I love Vincent. I actually like Vinny too. Beautiful name.

Brighterthansunflowers · 28/11/2020 23:47

Vincent, I don’t like Vinny either though. Would it bother you if he chooses to be Vinny?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/11/2020 00:36

OP - I think Archie might be disliked on Mumsnet, not because it sounds horrible as such, but because it could sound a bit "twee" or cute on a grown man. Archie also blends in to all the Alfie's, Albie's, Reggie's, Ronnie's etc in the Top 100, as part of the old-man nickname trend. So I think it will date unfortunately, (unlike more classic nicknames as given names like Jack, Harry, Sam, Max etc.)

Felixfrank · 29/11/2020 08:37

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

I don’t understand that tho as Archie and Ronnie especially are actually old names

I like Vincent. It works very well internationally, too. I’ve met Vincents from all over and it’s always struck me as a solid name.
