Which do you prefer?
I would not shorten Vincent to Vinny.. just Vin if his name was to be shortened

Not keen on either of them.

dementedma · 27/11/2020 13:23

Vincent.
Archie is pretty popular now

Squiffany · 27/11/2020 13:25

Neither

BigusBumus · 27/11/2020 14:12

Both aren't very nice. Sorry.

Nymeriastark1 · 27/11/2020 14:13

Not keen on Vincent at all. The scary dummy in toy story 4 suited them name well.
Archie is much better but it's a bit meh.

festivebug · 27/11/2020 14:18

Archie is a great choice. Not a fan of Vincent at all.

kimlo · 27/11/2020 14:19

Vincent

viques · 27/11/2020 14:29

If you want an “old fashioned” name why not go for one that doesn’t make your child sound like a grandad? David, Michael, James, Peter, Timothy, Simon, Anthony, Matthew, Benjamin, all perfectly good names, none of them likely to be filling classrooms in five years time.

If you are determined to have a grandad name then what about Wilberforce, Archibald, Wilfred, Clarence, Raymond............

Firebird83 · 27/11/2020 15:41

Vincent, definitely.

LemonsYellow · 27/11/2020 15:59

Vincent by far. Archie is awful. I know a teen Vincent. It’s a good name.

Whatsyourflava · 27/11/2020 16:01

Love both
Archie is my favourite though

festivebug · 27/11/2020 16:04

@viques The names you listed all sound much more 'grandad' to me, with the exception of James...

TheDetectiveBadge · 27/11/2020 16:16

Vincent! Archies are everywhere (I work in a school).

QuantamBaby · 27/11/2020 16:22

Archies are everywhere....

I really don't like Vincent, and he will get known as Vinnie wether you like it or not....

Himawarigirl · 27/11/2020 16:25

Millions of Archie’s round us. DS’s best friend is a Vincent so I have a soft spot for it. Not sure I would have liked it otherwise as I’d worry about it being shortened to Vinnie, which I’m not so keen on. But so far he is always Vincent (he’s 5).

carbnarA · 27/11/2020 16:34

Vincent is a brilliant name. Love it and love the Vincent I know

Doublebubblebubble · 27/11/2020 16:55

Vincent for me

roarfeckingroarr · 27/11/2020 16:58

H&MM ruined Archie for me. Not a fan of Vincent either though. Do you have any other names in the running?

Nell96 · 27/11/2020 18:09

I don't like Archie. Vincent is ok. How abour Sebastian, Dominic, Elliot, Nathaniel, Jude, Miles or Jasper?

AwFeebs · 27/11/2020 18:13

Neither if poss.

Vincent - not for me
Archie - massively overused and a bit meh now.

nancybotwinbloom · 27/11/2020 18:18

Both are good. Sorry no help.

If pushed leaning towards Vincent as Archie is popular now.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/11/2020 21:34

Vincent. It's okay, not my fave name but better than Archie, which (along with Alfie, Teddy et al) sounds a bit too cute for me as a given name (but obviously Archibald is pretty unusable!). Vincent is also less likely to date than Archie which is very trendy now.

iamthefox · 27/11/2020 22:03

Vincent

I have a 2 year old Vincent and I just love his name. I don't think of it as a grandad name; to me it is a bit arty and quirky - I think of the painter, the Don Maclean song... and the mighty boosh character 😄

We use all the abbreviations - Vin, Vince, Vinny and also Vincy.

resm · 27/11/2020 22:07

I love Vincent! Not keen on Vinny either. I think Vin/Vince are okay nicknames, but the full given name is beautiful on its own.

If you like the sound of it, you might also like the Irish name Fintan?
