Birdyblue

Someone I follow on Instagram (a make up artist and singer) has called her newborn daughter Birdyblue. I like this girl, she seems really down to earth generally so I don’t want to bash anyone’s name choice but I’m not being unreasonable in thinking this is madness?

Apparently her grandmother has a little blue bird house in her garden and she referrs to the visiting birds as her ‘blue birdies’ so somehow it became a nickname for the bump and then it stuck.

The baby’s full name is Birdyblue Biza (apparently short for Ibiza as they love the place) Cece Seagar.

I think it’s cute when you’ve got a tiny newborn but not so much when she’s a 50-something managing director of a company? Or a doctor? I just feel she will be fighting preconceptions about her all her life due to her name and that maybe they haven’t thought this through properly.

Why would you be interested in someone who would call their child such a ridiculous name.

micc · 25/11/2020 10:42

I saw this!
I am one for an exciting name as both my children have uncommon names. But I do agree this is odd. Why not just Birdie? Or Blue? Uncommon but not unheard of.
I think it's a big thing in America to have names like that, also to have ordinary names but spelt really odd. Like Ashleigh which really blows my mind. I follow this reddit page that its dedicated to spotting these names on social media Haha, some of the spellings are wild. And it's like why? Why does that make your child have a unique name? Her name is Ashley.

berrygirlie · 25/11/2020 10:44

Eh. If it's not explicit or problematic I'm not too fussed.

Ashleigh is a totally normal name. Ashley is more commonly used for boys.

Yeah good point bad example!
I just saw April being spelt Apryll! Better example ahaha but hey to each there own I guess

Now that IS awful! There’s a child at my son’s school called Indigo but spelled Yndygo
Avery7 · 25/11/2020 10:52

Not the first influencer to use/abuse their children for publicity, unfortunately

EssentialHummus · 25/11/2020 10:53

I find it bonkers but I suspect the child will get to the point where they choose their own version of the name, that they are happy with.

Any chance you could share the name of that sub? Sounds like a laugh Grin
JiltedJohnsJulie · 25/11/2020 11:02

It might not be their real name? My BF is a SEN blogger and writes about one of her DS but never refers to him by his real name.

micc · 25/11/2020 11:03

Yeah it's called NameNerdCirclejerk hahaha the NameNerd thread is also really interesting as its people genuinely interested in names.. but the first one is funnier 😂
Honestly some of the names just baffle me, some good recent ones I've seen are, Jeeplyn, Kaylobe and Decker... for a girl!!!! Also Crosby which is questionable
Again, I love a unique name but.. I feel there is a line 😂

Copernico · 25/11/2020 11:05

Doctors and businesspeople have hippie names. It’s 2020, let’s move on from this argument. It’s not a name I’d choose but I’ve heard far worse.

IHaveAGreyLamp · 25/11/2020 11:14

Okay clearly I’m being unreasonable to think this is an awful name. Most of the comments on her Instagram seemed to approve of the name so it must be me!

And this is why we teach children that IG isn't RL! Of course her followers love it- they're all sycophants.

hardtimeuphere · 25/11/2020 13:08

I saw this too! I think they are calling her Bibi for short though, which I quite like! Did think it was a bit much though but each to their own...

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/11/2020 15:06

That’s just ridiculous. If it was Bluebird it may not be as bad. At least that’s the name of an actual bird, but What the fresh hell is
Birdyblue. Some people tend to forget they’re naming a person not a baby.

Firebird83 · 25/11/2020 15:06

Kandi-Raine is the worst name I’ve heard.

nemeton · 25/11/2020 17:07

Aw Kandi-Raine is very sweet! Wink

I know an Elexyss...

TeenyTinyDustinHoffman · 25/11/2020 17:35

How many people would give their children names like this if they were unable to talk about it on social media?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/11/2020 19:53

You are not unreasonable OP - it's just that once a baby is here and named on a BC, most people don't want to insult the name (since it's a bit rude and sort of "too late"). If a parent to be had come on here asking for an opinion on the name Birdyblue before the birth however... Bridget (Birdie) with the middle name Blue would have been much more useable imo.

BumpLoading · 25/11/2020 21:59

I think Birdyblu is a really pretty name actually! Birdie is a well known name I've always been fond of and I like how it goes with blu.
Agree its very uncommon but weve definitly got a generation of uncommon names now!

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 25/11/2020 22:40

I actually saw this through someone I know on FB today.... It her grandaughter. i had to check the name!

Kanaloa · 26/11/2020 01:08

I personally think it’s awful. A lot of people think names like this are cute, but I always think whether I’d like that name myself, and I’d hate to be called Birdyblue. I just think it sounds silly and like something my 5yo would name one of her dolls.

SionnachRua · 26/11/2020 01:15

You sure she didn't birth a pedigree showdog instead of a baby?

Absolute joke of a name. Poor kid.

MimiDaisy11 · 26/11/2020 08:37

I don't follow any "influencers" but this seems to be the done thing - to give them a ridiculous name. If I was one I'd just say I'd give them some weird name but actually in real life and on the birth certificate they'd have a normal name.
