Mimi for short

Always loved mimi as a nickname/short name. Any ideas on longer versions - not quite enough of name on it's own, for me!

Thank you!

@DramaAlpaca

Cosima, like Nigella Lawson's daughter.

I was going to say the same. It is a lovely name.

I know a Mimi in her 20's now, she is Amelia to her mum & dad.

The Mimis I know are short for either Imogen or Hermione

I adore Cosima, though, since Nigella Lawson named her daughter it.

Agree with the pp who said Mimi could be short for any name with a "me" sound in it - my vote is for Jessamine.

Do you say it "mee-mee" or "mimy"? If the first one then I know a Mila and at least two Amelias who are called this, all toddler age- it does sound quire babyish to me, a bit like being called Boo Boo for example and I wouldn't want to be stuck with it as an adult. I think it's a very standard nickname for a lot of the M names that are so popular.

My friend has a Mia she calls Mimi.

That reminds me of the episode of Outnumbered, where Pete has his head turned by a woman called Mimi and, when Sue finds out and questions him further, it transpires that her name is Mia (with whom I think Sue is acquainted). Pete tells Sue that he wasn't trying to hide her identity, just that she's known as Mimi, which is short for Mia. Sue goes into one of her wonderful rants about Pete falling for a woman who's so stupid that she shortens her name by making it longer!

(No criticism of anybody called Mia being known as Mimi - just the suggestion that it's shorter!)
