Docie?

It's a Greek girl's name. I believe it's pronounced like "doh-see". I'm leaning towards this name a bit more than the others on our list, so wanted to know everyone's opinion on it. The middle name will be Catherine.

Other names in our list are:

Mallory
Madeleine
Rowan
Quinn

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
icedaisy · 17/11/2020 13:12

I have never heard of it but I really like it. My only slight concern would be is it to close to dozy? May be an accent issue perhaps.

Twinkie01 · 17/11/2020 13:13

Dreadful. It makes me think of the awful country dancing lessons they put us through at primary school in the 80s doing the docie doh.

lobsteroll · 17/11/2020 13:14

I think Mallory is beautiful and love Quinn too

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2020 13:15

Country dancing was the first thing it brought to mind; the second was that it's too close to 'docile'.

KyraGoose · 17/11/2020 13:16

Sounds like dozy or docile. Not great. Sorry.

melisande99 · 17/11/2020 13:20

I'd never heard of it, so googled it and found it listed on one website as a (English) nickname for Eudocia which itself is a Latin form of a Greek name.

I think it would be a pain to live with. Nobody will know it and there's not even an easy explanation. And yes, it made me think of "dosie doe".

Audreyseyebrows · 17/11/2020 13:21

What about Dulcie?

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2020 13:21

I'm not keen on it myself but maybe Dulcie might be an alternative?

Swingometer · 17/11/2020 13:22

I'm really not keen sorry

Agree with others that it's a bit too close to Dozy

Darcy much nicer!

jujuball · 17/11/2020 13:26

Too similar to dozy/docile. Josie is nice, or Dulcie?

Coldwinterahead1 · 17/11/2020 13:27

I agree it sounds like Dozy

AGeeseGoose · 17/11/2020 13:29

It’s too similar to docile for me....I love Madeleine from your list, and I like Rowan and Quinn

SleepingStandingUp · 17/11/2020 13:29

Another not a fan.

I think apart from the mispronunciation issues the sounds isn't great.
Dozie docie

Mallory or Quinn for me

Nell96 · 17/11/2020 13:39

I really dislike it, sorry. As others have said, Josephine (nn Josie) or Darcy would be better options with a similar sound.

Not keen on your other options, apart from Rowan, which I think is a beautiful name for a girl.

jujuball · 17/11/2020 13:51

I should've added I like all of your other options, especially Rowan and Quinn Smile

zafferana · 17/11/2020 13:53

Dozy Docie - it's awful OP!

Any of your other names is immeasurably better.

ShipOfTheseus · 17/11/2020 13:58

Docia is better. That’s a more used form of the name.
Out of your others, all are fine except Quinn.

RachelGreep87 · 17/11/2020 14:18

Sounds like Taylor Doose from Gilmore Girls.

Omeara · 17/11/2020 14:21

I thought doh-see-doh immediately followed by Dozy.

It’s not a great name OP.

Mochudubh · 17/11/2020 14:24

Fandabidocie?

Mallory sounds clumsy, not sure why but Ancestry says it means "unlucky" or "unhappy".
www.ancestry.co.uk/name-origin?surname=mallory#:~:text=English%20(of%20Norman%20origin)%3A,unhappy%27%2C%20%27unlucky%27.

Quinn is a common Irish surname as well as a chain of Irish convenience stores.
Madelaine is OK.
I like Rowan, could be for a boy or girl.

berrygirlie · 17/11/2020 14:25

There's a Youtuber called "Dodie" who's real name is Dorothy, which maybe sounds up your street? Alternatively, Dottie?

ProudAuntie76 · 17/11/2020 14:27

Reminds me of the Dohsie doh. Also sounds like the seven dwarves long lost brother “Dozy”.

Sorry OP.

happylittlechick · 17/11/2020 14:32

No on in the uk has ever been called this. There are so many beautiful names. Choose one that is at least a recognised name.

ProudAuntie76 · 17/11/2020 14:40

Just thought...some people might also mispronounce it as “dossy”...as in “it’s a bit dossy to sit in your pyjamas all day” and “ugh, what a dosser!”.

Of your list I like Mallory a lot.

Or you could have Darcie or Dottie as an alternative?

ShipOfTheseus · 17/11/2020 14:43

How do you know no-one in the U.K. has ever been called this?
