Unless you think your child would like to go as Archibald as an adult, I'd leave it alone.

MerchantOfVenom · 15/11/2020 03:49

Really, really not to my taste.

I think it will date badly.

MercyBodle · 15/11/2020 03:52

I love it, and I don't see any problem as an adult's name. Is it too popular is like asking how long is a piece of string. Do you dislike popular names? Some people love them. Do you know any Archies? Do you have a popular name and has it been an issue for you? I personally don't find it too popular, maybe because I don't know any little Archies.

August20 · 15/11/2020 03:53

I would avoid. It's not 'classic' like other royal names (George, Charlotte etc) so it is more closely associated with the royal family.

It sounds like a nickname but I don't like the potential names it could be short for (Archer, Archibald).

Not really my cup of tea.

Topseyt · 15/11/2020 04:30

I like it and would have seriously considered it if we had had a boy, but we had three girls.

I see no problems with calling an adult Archie.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/11/2020 04:31

Hard pass.

IHateCoronavirus · 15/11/2020 04:32

There are lots Archies around aged 11 and under. As long as you are happy with that go for it.

Wherethereshope · 15/11/2020 08:31

Thanks all.. gosh some of you are quite rude, I didn't ask if you liked it!

I've not heard of any baby Archie's in the last year but I was thinking lockdown has probably impacted that.

I like a name that doesn't get shortened, that is quite average (don't know how else to put it!), but wouldn't want him to be in a class full of Archie's!

I like it.

Pluto986 · 15/11/2020 08:38

I only know one baby Archie and I think it’s a cute name for a baby/toddler. I also know an adult Archie and it suits him, he definitely has no issues with the name. So I think it’s fine for an adult. Also when your baby is grown up there will be 1000’s of his peers with similar ie type names so it won’t seem ‘babyish’ to them. Lots called Reggie, Ronnie, Aflie, Albie etc

DepuisToujours · 15/11/2020 08:43

I love it!

I always get stick for suggesting this, but I considered Archer for DS which we would have shortened to Archie.

Awaits person saying "Archie? As in, a bowman?" or "it's very American". Well I am originally from America so :-p Grin.

And yes, like a god damn bowman! Like Hunter is also a name.

Projecting? Moi? Wink

It's lovely. I don't know any, other than MM and H's baby.

DepuisToujours · 15/11/2020 08:43

"Archer? As in a bowman?" I mean! It's too early.

Mumdiva99 · 15/11/2020 08:49

I have an Archie. Much older than Megan and Harry's son. I love the name. I don't know how it will 'date badly' - it's not exactly a new name - there are plenty of famous Archie's. If you look up the name Archibald then it's hundreds of years old.....

MerchantOfVenom · 15/11/2020 09:18

Thanks all.. gosh some of you are quite rude, I didn't ask if you liked it!

What the?!

Yes you did:

I really like the name Archie but opinions please..

So when you said, ‘opinions please’, you really meant - only opinions that like it.

“It’s not a nice name” is also an opinion, just FYI.

MerchantOfVenom · 15/11/2020 09:21

Yes, it will date.

If you called your son Archibald, that will not date. But you didn’t, did you?

Archie absolutely will sound dated in a few years.

LolaLollypop · 15/11/2020 09:21

I think Archie is the best name out of that bunch (Archie, Albie, Reggie, Ronnie etc). I think they suit more to young kids and maybe teenage boys but I’m not sure about a grown man in a business meeting for example. However, like pp say, when our kids are 35 there will be all sorts of unusual names in the population in sure Archie will be quite common.

MerchantOfVenom · 15/11/2020 09:23

Archie, Albie, Reggie, Ronnie

They all sound like East End (second rate) criminals.

Sorry, but they do.

Mrscaindingle · 15/11/2020 09:34

I love it, I have a 16 year old Archie, there are a couple of other Archies at his school but not too many, that it feels common. Here in Scotland it absolutely is a classic name like William or Harry and you don't need to call him Archibald either!

MikeUniformMike · 15/11/2020 10:28

Not to my taste. Gets abbreviated to Arch, which is an adjective.
Archer is blimmin' awful as a first name.

DoS is Meghan.

SoosanCarter · 15/11/2020 10:36

Very popular name for dogs

Nell96 · 15/11/2020 10:39

I think it's sweet for a little boy, but I'm not sure it would suit a grown man. I also worry that it would date quite badly, as it seems fairly popular at the moment, in the same way as Alfie, Arthur etc.

Stopthebloodynotifications · 15/11/2020 10:40

Google “Archie Hamilton” and you won’t be disappointed.

Zolaanna · 15/11/2020 10:46

I like it a lot. I've taught a few and that was back 13+years ago so they'd now be men in their mid to late twenties. I think it works for both children, teens and grown ups

It won't date because it's not a new name and has been used consistently for 20 years

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 15/11/2020 10:50

I have an Archie and it was picked due to it being an old family name going back to great great great grandparents, they would have been Archibald’s then but I just registered as Archie

angryfedup · 15/11/2020 10:56

My son is called Archie and I still love the name! I think it'll suit him no matter how old he is.
