How many Theas do you know? I love the name Thea with the full name Theadora. I don't know any so was wondering about it's popularity. Also what kind of person do you picture when you think of a Thea? Isit too serious?

Thea is great on its own. It’s top 50 but I don’t know one. I think Theodora would be the usual spelling if you wanted a longer name.

Biscuitsneeded · 12/11/2020 17:40

I love Thea, beautiful and classic name, but if you're going with Theodora then the correct spelling is as I have posted it. She can still be known as Thea. Or just call her Thea!

TwinklyLightsandBaubles · 12/11/2020 17:41

I knew one at school but that was over 20 years ago. She was a force to be reckoned with just like her mother! I do remember them both being annoyed with how people pronounced her name she was Tay-Yer but often people said Thee-Yer.

I’ve never met or heard of another one since. I do like the name though and Theodora. Sorry all that waffle probably doesn’t help you much!

LeslieYep · 12/11/2020 17:41

My friend's dd is a Thea. No longer name, but I think it's lovely. She was born 18mo ago.

merlotormalbec · 12/11/2020 17:46

Oh yeah Theodora 🤦🏽‍♀️ thanks for pointing that out! Really glad it's getting positive feedback. My other 2 top names are Fleur and Ottilie but I feel like Thea is much more of a classic name

Thea is gorgeous
I don't know any
Sounds great with sibling names. A perfect choice

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/11/2020 18:05

Thea is what I would call a modern classic - long but infrequent historical use (usually as a nn for Theodora or Dorothea) but used much more this century as a name on it's own.

I must admit I like it best on it's own, but be aware statistically Thea has gotten very popular in the last 10 years (although I don't know any personally). Also there are pronunciation issues - some say Tay -ah, others use Thee- ah.

Aquamarine1029 · 12/11/2020 18:05

I have always loved Thea, it's a gorgeous name. Personally, I would just use Thea. I'm not crazy about Theadora.

DepuisToujours · 12/11/2020 18:10

Love Thea and Theodora!

Fleur I don't like the sound of. I like Ottolie, but I think it's getting a bit more common if that bothers you.

IrishCawfee · 12/11/2020 18:22

I know of 1 adult Thea. I like it because it's unusual but I don't know if I like it because I like it.

IntoP20 · 12/11/2020 18:27

I know one Thea. It’s a lovely name

weegiemum · 12/11/2020 18:30

I know one Thea who is one of the most uppity teenagers I've ever come across. So I wouldn't use it but agree it is a classic name, very ladylike!

I prefer Dorothea as the long version,

TwylaSands · 12/11/2020 18:33

I know three. Their birth certificate names are all different. Thea (said thee- a), Theodora (thay- a) and Dorothea (thay-a).

fizzybubblepop · 12/11/2020 18:36

I only know one Thea - a lovely, kind wonderful old lady in the same car home as my grandad. I think it is a beautiful name. I like Dorothea as a longer version.

kezziethecat · 12/11/2020 18:38

I also know 3 - two pronounced The-a and one pronounced Tay-a. I really like it although it may get pronounced Fear where I live.

Lonelycrab · 12/11/2020 18:41

Really like itSmile

And I think I know only one person with that name.

nemeton · 12/11/2020 18:41

Thea is lovely- classic and underused.

BlueBoar · 12/11/2020 18:42

I would have called DS Thea (Theodora) if he had been a girl, but living in the SE, I now realise that is often pronounced Fear, given the accent. But if by some miracle I became pregnant again at 43(!!), I would possibly still consider it as a name as I absolutely love it.

nemeton · 12/11/2020 18:42

And Malbec please!Wine

ILoveAnOwl · 12/11/2020 18:42

I really wish we'd stuck with Dorothea for our Dd, although she'd have been Dori, so possibly not much help as an answer. (although I also love Thea).

Masssivefuckup · 12/11/2020 20:00

I know 2 under 6 months (opposite ends of the country). Lovely name Smile

JohnnyJohnnyYesMama · 12/11/2020 20:03

I know 4 under the age of 3, lovely name though

VenusClapTrap · 13/11/2020 21:15

I’ve only ever met one - a stunningly beautiful Scottish woman I worked with briefly, about twenty years ago. I’ve loved the name ever since but couldn’t use it for dd because Dh is forrin and can’t pronounce ‘th’.

I wouldn’t bother with Theodora as a bc name. If you like Thea, just use Thea. It’s a perfectly good standalone name.

DramaAlpaca · 14/11/2020 00:17

Thea isn't in the least bit classic. To me it's a mousy, insipid name with no strength to it. I wouldn't want to be called Thea.

MikeUniformMike · 14/11/2020 19:05

Not keen. So many Theos and Theodores.
