Nn for Lindsey

Ok so not a baby name but Lindsey is my name and I hate it as I'm in my 20s and to me Lindsey screams middle aged woman so not so much the name I hate but just it doesn't suit me and it's not my generation so looking for names I can use that are short for Lindsey.

I thought of Liz and Lin but again pretty old fashioned, my middle name is Anne so again old fashioned. (Thanks mum)

I also thought of Elle ('L') but wasn't sure if that was too far away from my name.
I really hate it and want to use something else, I have been called Linz as a teenager but now I'm an adult it doesn't feel right to introduce myself just as Linds as people then just call me Lindsey.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Lynn

Lindsey is fine as is :)

GwenCooper81 · 09/11/2020 16:29

Couldn't you just choose another name that you like? Lindsey is a nice enough name. I'd choose 'Jessica' if I had the chance for my name. I think Lindsey will always be shortened to 'Linz'. My name is similar. I have one nick name I like and one that sounds awful. People always use the awful one no matter how I introduce myself.

vegiburger · 09/11/2020 16:31

Linnie?

Firebird83 · 09/11/2020 16:31

Linnie or Lindy?

cptartapp · 09/11/2020 16:35

I'm a Lindsay Ann. Middle aged. Don't like the name. No one spells it correctly.
I get Linz from most people and don't give it a second thought.
Got Lesley from some teachers all through school Confused

AndromedaDud · 09/11/2020 16:37

Do your initials form any sort of name? A friend of mine did this as she had a kind of old-fashioned name. Another friend just changed it completely!

Redtartanshoes · 09/11/2020 16:38

Lizzy?

Redtartanshoes · 09/11/2020 16:39

Although to be fair the majority of people that known you will continue calling you what they alsways have.

Friend called Mandy her whole life decides at 40 Tom be Amanda. Everyone still calls her Mandy 🤷🏽‍♀️

florascotia2 · 09/11/2020 16:43

Your nickname doesn't have to be based on your name. It can be anything you like.
Just think of former US President's wife LadyBird Johnson (official name = Claudia), or Prince William's nanny Tiggy (official name = Alexandra). And there will be millions of others.

Your nickname could be based (for example) on your taste in music or books, or your hobbies, or your childhood traits, or your current skills...

@AndromedaDud that's a good thought my initials are LC - Elsie

Lindz?
That’s the NN of the Lindsay I know who is young (20’s).

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 09/11/2020 16:57

Linnet. Which is still old fashioned but a bit more 'old lady chic' old fashioned. I like Elle. I know a Lucy who is Lulu but it only works because she really rocks it.

See Elsie sounds very “old lady” to me...like “Betty” and “Edith”.

Lindsay doesn’t sound that middle aged to me...more like a Danielle, Bethany, Georgia sort of name. Lynne sounds old fashioned.

Lindy or Liddy? Lindy sounds quite retro vintage and I taught a few Liddy and Lydias who would be early 20s now. I’m 36 and teach at a university so most of my students are in their late teens early twenties and called Amy/Amie/Aimee, Charlotte, Rosie, Ruby, Sophie, Kayleigh etc...Lindsay doesn’t seem all that out of place to be honest.

I’ve a friend who hates her L name and now goes by Lola. I suppose that could be an option.

TheTeenageYears · 09/11/2020 17:03

My initials are also LC and lots of people called me Elsie at school.

Cake7 · 09/11/2020 17:09

My dd(11) is Lindsay and we call her Lindz for short.

LightDrizzle · 09/11/2020 17:18

The Lindsey I know is Zizzy to family as that’s how she said it when tiny.

FrightClub · 09/11/2020 17:21

one of my oldest friend's mum is called Linnet (I think she's Linda originally) - really pretty and unusual.

I also know 3 Lindsays/Lindsey/Lyndsays (I'm 46) and they're all called Lindz.

AnneOfCleavage · 09/11/2020 17:36

Your initials are L A C so could you be Lacy/ Lacey? It's got a similar sound to Lindsey. Or you could be Lanie with the L and the Anne combined or pronounced Larnie.

ShipOfTheseus · 09/11/2020 17:43

I thought Lacey too.

ShipOfTheseus · 09/11/2020 17:46

Linden is pretty nice - as in the tree.

NN4me · 09/11/2020 17:46

@LightDrizzle I said that too when I was a toddler.
Lots of nice suggestions to give some thought too.

My friend is a Linny it suits her.

A Lyn I know has a middle name that starts with B and she is always LB

linerforlife · 09/11/2020 17:48

My best friend at primary school was called Lindsey Smile (I'm 33) We called her Libby, as did her family - her little sister called her Liddy though Grin

GwenCooper81 · 09/11/2020 17:48

Mine are LC aswell. Was an Elsie at my first job. Good choice 👍
