Hello. Our son was born 3 days ago and we have no name because they told us he was a girl. Our current options are Braven, Soren and Reagan. Which of these names do you prefer and do you have any middle name ideas? Thank you.

This thread is making me crave toasted malt loaf with oodles of butter

Soren is the best of the three. Regan was one of Lear's daughters, as PPs have said. The only man I can think of with that name is Paul Gascoigne's son. Braven is very odd, sorry.

You can toast malt loaf??!

OP, Soren is a lovely name. Soren Peter.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 06/11/2020 18:37

Soren!

2bazookas · 06/11/2020 18:42

Remember his first name has to go with surname
how many syllables in your surname, and what's its first letter? ( Not asking you to reveal, just consider)

Soren Smithers (far too many ss) would be awful. But Soren + 2syllablesname would be nice.

If you have a single syllable surname, I'd choose a 3 syllable first name, and vice versa

LBTM · 06/11/2020 18:51

Oren, Torin, Corran or Arran as alternatives to Soren? I know of a few little Orans and torins and arrans all with different spellings.

Ironmanrocks · 06/11/2020 19:01

Reminds me of Soren Lorenson in Charlie and Lola - but I love Soren! So his middle name must be Loren......or something Scandinavian at least!
Such as:
Matias
Erik
Elias
Emil....

I like Soren Matias...

EssentialHummus · 06/11/2020 19:02

It’s Søren in Danish - are you willing to use that for an English kid? Different pronunciation too. I commented on your other thread - I reckon Alexander/Xander or something equally strong from Greek mythology.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/11/2020 19:06

Soren is gorgeous, just be aware it may not be pronounced the proper Swedish way if that bothers you? (Orrin/Oren/Oran would be easier to pronounce but then there's spelling issues). Braven sounds made up, so is not my taste and Reagan too much a surname for me (or a well known girls name if spelt Regan). Of your choices definitely Soren for me! Its hard to suggest middle name/s without knowing your surname, are there any family names that might sound nice in the middle spot?

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 06/11/2020 19:08

Of your names, I like Soren best. (My spell check tries to change that to soreness- just an FYI)

For middle names, try to make it something that means something to your family, look at grandfather names or godparents. (I regret not using great grandfather name of Edwald- thought it didn't work as well with ds's first name, but it would have been nice to have that link back in family history.)

squee123 · 06/11/2020 19:38

@ToadCandle it is the food of the gods. Goes all beautifully gooey and almost caramelises. Yum.

Tbf I love it so much I probably should have used Soren for my DS

PoodleMoth · 06/11/2020 20:08

Soren

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/11/2020 20:52

Sorry I meant Soren pronounced the Danish way (like Kierkegaard), not Swedish. But either way I think it's pronounced closer to "Sur - ren" in Scandinavia - UK folk would more likely say "Sore - ren" or "Soh - ren". I still love it though!

Oneandabean · 06/11/2020 23:30

Soren is lovely, the other two aren’t names

Tweetypietwo · 07/11/2020 06:33

Soren - reminds me of the Soreen loaf
Braven - dislike
Reagan - like

IckleBear · 07/11/2020 09:04

I love Soren!

Soren Eli

Squeakerfoot · 07/11/2020 09:27

Soren is lovely.

Not Braven, whatever you do.
TheChristmasPrincess · 07/11/2020 11:46

I’d say out of your list I would choose Reagan but I’m not a fan of any of them.

I like Soren in theory, it’s very soft looking and handsome, but it feels too Scandinavian to be acceptable in an English speaking country. It also reminds me of Soreen malt loaves.

Reagan reminds me of Ronald Reagan and the girl from the Exorcist. I also associate it as being more of a girls name than a boys name.

Braven looks made up, like you wanted to use Brave and the added letters to fill it out more.

itssquidstella · 07/11/2020 11:52

Soren!

NameChanger3002 · 07/11/2020 11:59

Boden?

Enko · 07/11/2020 12:47

I love Søren but spelt like that. Grew up in Denmark know many have family members named this. My dd has the femine version of this name as her mn. I have never known a bad Søren.

Sudename · 07/11/2020 12:49

Soren James has a nice ring to it. Congratulations

YoniAndGuy · 07/11/2020 13:01

Ok Braven is appalling and isn't a name - surely your other thread has given you an insight into the ridicule your DS would have to deal with if you named him this?

Regan/Reagan is a girl's name, and a fairly unpleasant one - associations and the Exorcist and an ex president.

Soren - this is nice - folk say girl but I just think of Charlie and Lola and the invisible friend Soren Lorensen who I think was a boy. I'd go for Soren.

Another fab option would be Stellan. Also Leif? Magnus? Torben?

Antonin · 07/11/2020 13:12

Soren
Love Stellan as well.
