Nicknames for Autumn

I love the name Autumn but I’m big on nicknames and can’t seem to think of a nickname that comes from the name. We’ve thought of Fall (as it’s another name for Autumn) What does everyone think? Do you have any other suggestions?

I would wait as nicknames tend to appear spontaneously rather than being picked.

xyzandabc · 31/10/2020 10:13

I know quite a few Autumns, none of them are known by anything other than Autumn. If you want a nickname or shortening choose different name, or use a middle name, or have Autumn as the middle name.

reefedsail · 31/10/2020 10:15

Tummy?

Not really a nick-name name is it?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 31/10/2020 10:15

Fall? Thats ridiculous!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 31/10/2020 10:15

Don't nicknames usually evolve?
I never quite get the choosing a baby name and trying to force a nickname.

ApolloandDaphne · 31/10/2020 10:18

Calling a child Autumn then suggesting Fall as a nickname to me saying that they are called Carol but using Song as a nickname. It is quite ridiculous. She would likely become Auts or Auttie.

Mr Tumnus

MisiSam · 31/10/2020 10:22

My neice is called autumn, sometimes we call her Auty.

Greyhoundgirly · 31/10/2020 14:25

Aww it's a nice name but can't think of any obvious nn x

CarveryThisSunday · 31/10/2020 14:27

Fall is silly wth. No.

Autumn is lovely as it is.

Flappingflamingo · 31/10/2020 20:27

Leaves?

Firebird83 · 31/10/2020 21:27

Fall? No

EminyBOO · 31/10/2020 21:32

Why would you want her to be called Fall if you love the name Autumn?
If you love nicknames so much and plan to use one exclusively, you might be better off finding a nickname you want to use first, and then choosing a longer name to have on the bc. (Or not, just choose a name you like)

Maduixa · 31/10/2020 21:43

I know an Autumn who sometimes goes by Tommy. I see the logic of Autumn > Fall (it’s no stranger than the classic Margaret > Daisy), but do you like Fall as a name? If not, I’d be more inclined to wait and see - you might like Ottie or Audie or something else completely. Historically, there’s a lot of creativity in English language naming - how do we get (just for example) Mary > Polly or Catherine > Kitty or James> Jimmy or Henry > Hank or Charles > Chuck except by playing around with sound?

hiptobeasquare · 31/10/2020 21:48

Leaf? Nicknames are funny though, they just sort of evolve. My 2 year old (Anne) gets called Annie B, after Anne Boleyn. Grin
(I love Tudor history and Anne loves dancing to the SIX musical.)

lobsteroll · 31/10/2020 22:00

Yeah I would agree; nicknames just evolve and can be as much to do with personality rather than name. My first goes by full name even though there are many many nickname options for her name. She just suits the full whack.

My second has gone by a nickname pretty much since she was born as my eldest could only pronounce the nickname at that point, and again it suits her.

Now she's actually got a second nickname which is nothing to do with her name but because of something she funny that she does a lot. It's been natural and gradual and I'd never have dreamed we would call her this when we picked her name.

alloutofducks · 31/10/2020 22:03

My DD (who has a long and beautiful and uncommon name which lends itself to many sensible nns) is known as Bungle. God knows why.

DC4 is 19 and I discovered about a fortnight ago that he also has a bonkers and unrelated nn.

I wouldn't set too much store by nicknames, OP.

FourNaanJeremy · 31/10/2020 22:09

Why does a name need to have a nickname? Autumn is fine on its own. Our DS has a short name and is just called by his name. Any nicknames he will eventually get will just naturally develop I presume.

Coffeecak3 · 31/10/2020 22:11

I agree with others a nickname will evolve naturally.
My dd has 2, one that we use and another her friends use.

persheptions · 31/10/2020 22:14

I predict she will be called Ortie-Tortie and Tumpty which will eventually become Humpty Dumpty.

persheptions · 31/10/2020 22:14

Speaking from bitter experience of having beautiful names massacred!

SleepingStandingUp · 31/10/2020 22:18

i think Fall is too contrived. I mean i picked Ezekiel knowing i'd call him Zeke but it's direct.

I'd think Tummy or Tums as a baby could work, Auty is a bit too Naughty Auty

CodenameVillanelle · 31/10/2020 22:18

Lol
Of course you can't call a child 'fall'
If you like Autumn then it doesn't need a nickname. Forced nicknames are naff as fuck anyway.

SleepingStandingUp · 31/10/2020 22:20

altho he's also Zoo but that's emerged as i've talked to him cos i like alliteration

Haffdonga · 31/10/2020 22:40

I think OP doesn't mean nickname but a diminutive/ shortening derived from Autumn.

Autie, Torty, Tumma, Tony, Auta, Tunny, Aurla?

Or you could tell everyone her name is Autumn but she'll be known by family and friends as Tilly/ Nonny /Pickle/ Dotty/ or whatever unconnected and unrelated nickname you choose.
