I love the name Autumn but I’m big on nicknames and can’t seem to think of a nickname that comes from the name. We’ve thought of Fall (as it’s another name for Autumn) What does everyone think? Do you have any other suggestions?

I know a little girl called autumn and her parents call her Tum Tum. My little girl is Esmé and her nickname is flossy or Jezzabell. Nicknames come natural x

DramaLlama12 · 31/10/2020 23:11

I’m the same as @MonicaBelulaGellar
I know an autumn and was tumtum as a baby

Frankly I think Autumn is a name you can't really shorten. So use the whole name.

m0therofdragons · 31/10/2020 23:49

My Heidi is called Roo and my Kitty is called Bear. Dd1 however demanded her full name she 3 so that’s not abbreviated and no silly nick names.

Definitely think nicknames tends to occur naturally.

Auttie would be a cute nickname. Or maybe an initial based one if your surname began with a J or something she could be AJ or the equivalent x

Agree with PP, nicknames evolve. DD was called 'Whippy' for a long time as it vaguely rhymed with a shortening of her name. She now calls herself 'Mum' (she is 2).

I love the idea of Tommy for Autumn
I think anything with a T in it could work, eg Tiggy, Tottie, Tootie. Or with M such as Mimi, Mim, Minnie, Misty, Miffy, Missy, Muffy.

Just wanted to add that Autumn is a beautiful name, definitely one we would have considered.

nevergoingoutagain · 01/11/2020 07:27

My daughters are called dood, pestie and jingles. Grin Stop trying too hard, choose a name you like and the nicknames will come!

Oryxx · 01/11/2020 07:31

If you like Autumn (which is lovely!) then just call her Autumn. It is a name that doesn’t have an obvious shortening like Susan - Susie so I wouldn’t try to force it. The best nicknames evolve naturally anyway.

foxtiger · 01/11/2020 10:06

The only Autumn I've ever known was always called Autumn.

Spidey66 · 01/11/2020 18:32

Im not mad on the name but don't hate it.

I don't think it really gives to nicknames though and sorry, i think Fall is ridiculous. Nicknames to me are shortening of names, so for example Charlotte/Lottie, Albert/Bertie. If you really want a nickname (and they're not neccessary) go for a different name. Sorry.

Autumn907 · 02/07/2021 23:29

Hi there! My name is Autumn, so I thought I'd share with you some of the nicknames I've been given over the years =). I've got a cousin who's always called me "Tum Tum" (kind of a silly one), and then all of my family members and friends have called me "Autumn Bottom" my whole life lol.
But my top 2 favorites were what my mom and step dad call me which is "Auto", or "Automatic", and what my ex husband used to call me which was "Audi". (Pronounced as
"Aw-dee", and not the way the car model is pronounced) ☺️🌹.

Nicknames rarely come from actual names, you're thinking of shortened versions. Nicknames evolve from family in-jokes, from terms of endearment, rhyming slang, tv characters... my kids have nicknames of Noodles and Smithers. Nothing at all to do with their actual names!

Kanaloa · 03/07/2021 01:07

Naming a child Autumn then calling them Fall is ridiculously contrived. I don’t think there’s any naturally occurring nicknames, unless you gave her a middle name beginning with J and call her A.J.

tcjotm · 03/07/2021 01:42

Nicknames often evolve naturally but they aren’t necessarily ones you’d like your school friends to use 😂.

Tumtum is cute for a baby but for a 13 year going through a pudgy stage? Ouch.

Autumn is a pretty name in it’s entirety. I think if you want a usable nickname start enforcing it early because the ones made from it arent quite as classic as Jenny or Meg.

I’d probably find myself calling her Autumnal. Makes it sound like the formal version 😂😂

KMS281 · 24/08/2021 16:10

I have a baby girl called Autumn. Nicknames that have evolved naturally have been Autie and Auts so far!
