I'm so indecisive!!

Thought I'd decided on Nina for DD due in 3 weeks but then saw the name Ivy and really like that too...

DS is called Teddy. Middle names probably will be Emilia and Lily in either order.

I obviously am incapable of making a decision without posting on here and DP is just as indecisive!!

So... Nina or Ivy?!

I like both. Possibly Nina slightly more.

If you do go with Nina, I would go with the order Nina Lily Emilia because if you put it the other way round, the vowels at the beginning and end of Nina and Emilia will make it difficult to say and often an invisible 'r' sound happens - it will sound like 'Ninaremilia'

disappear · 29/10/2020 09:50

Nina is lovely but with Emilia and Lily, there are a lot of similar vowel sounds.

Ivy is also lovely but with Lily, it’s a bit horticultural.

Not much help, am I?

GoingBackTo505 · 29/10/2020 10:01

I like the combos of Nina Lily or Ivy Emilia but don't like Nina Emilia or Ivy Lily. It will be the right time of year for Ivy!

Pineapple30 · 29/10/2020 10:02

@lampshadery yes I agree! Its maybe a bit rhymey...!

@disappear haha it is helpful and I agree again, maybe we could go with a different middle name rather than Lily e.g. Ivy Emilia Grace. Emilia we're pretty set on as love the name but don't want to use as 1st name as don't want her to spend her life saying its Emilia not Amelia!!

Emilia is becoming a lot more popular now, so if you love it I wouldn't let the spelling put you off. It might not be as much as an issue as you're expecting?

Hightide1 · 29/10/2020 10:17

I realise this is not that helpful but much prefer your middle name choices! Agree with pp that if you love Emilia you should go for that.
Are you set on 2 middle names? If so I think Lily Emilia flows better than Emilia Lily.
I can't say I love Ivy or Nina, but Nina is my favourite of the two. I also think it goes better with Teddy.

Pineapple30 · 29/10/2020 10:49

@lampshadery that's true, will have a think.
@Hightide1 thank you, Teddy has 2 middle names so wanted to keep them the same...!!

I don't think you can Ivy with Lily, even if you put Emilia in the middle. I'd stick with Nina.

user1493494961 · 29/10/2020 10:55

Emilia is lovely, prefer Ivy over Nina.

elfran · 29/10/2020 11:14

Honestly, I'm team waiting until the baby is here until you decide! You like them both (as do I, but that's neither here nor there), so wait to see what feels right when you meet her.

Quercus3 · 29/10/2020 11:40

Both lovely but Nina is fab, bit more unusual and travels really well 💚

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 29/10/2020 11:43

Nina Emelia Lily would be my choice from those names.
Although I wouldn't worry too much about having 2 middle names. One of my DC has 2 and the other has 1. It's never been an issue.

MikeUniformMike · 29/10/2020 12:20

I don't like Ivy at all. I like Nina.

FreeAcorns · 29/10/2020 12:31

Nina is much nicer!

MercyBodle · 29/10/2020 12:52

Ivy Emilia Grace is my favourite of your options. I find Nina a bit bland.

DramaAlpaca · 29/10/2020 14:44

I prefer Ivy, it's a stronger name than Nina.

Ivy Emilia Lily is a nice combination.

Firebird83 · 29/10/2020 15:15

Nina, definitely.

IHeartHounds · 29/10/2020 15:17

Nina!

NameChange84 · 29/10/2020 15:18

Nina is 10000000000000000000 times nicer than Ivy. It’s strong, classy, alluring, feminine in a strong way, works well internationally.
Ivy is a kitsch old lady name as well as a pest when it’s trailing all over your garden. It’s quite popular now too whereas Nina is less common.

Pineapple30 · 29/10/2020 18:54

Thanks everyone ☺
Maybe could use both e.g. Nina Ivy Emilia...

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 29/10/2020 20:32

I wouldn't. Nina Emilia is nice but as I posted I don't like Ivy at all and if you say them together it sounds like Neen Erivy

finallychangedmyusername · 29/10/2020 20:41

I like both but slightly prefer Nina.

Nina Emilia Lily or Nina Lily Emilia are quite repetitive though.

Nina Ivy Lillian
Nina Holly Emilia
Nina Emilia Violet
Nina Rose Emilia
Nina Emilia Ivy
Nina Emilia Jasmine
Nina Iris Emilia
Nina Emily Rose

... as some other possible combos you might like?

showgirlie · 29/10/2020 20:41

Ivy was my favourite baby name a few years ago but its quite popular now where we live. I had a baby last month and named her Nina, very positive responses so far. Some people have mentioned (sang) the ABBA song Nina pretty ballerina, which doesn't bother me.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/10/2020 20:50

Nina no contest for me - pretty, suits all ages, easy to spell and say but not too popular and shouldn't date. Ivy on the other hand has shot up in popularity and may date badly (most Ivy's you meet now are under 10's).

Pineapple30 · 30/10/2020 10:51

Thanks everyone!
Thank you @finallychangedmyusername for the middle name suggestions will consider them!
Congratulations @showgirlie great name choice 😊
