Thoughts on Sean?

Don’t really have much to say here other than if it would be odd for us to use this name as we do not come from an Irish background. What are people’s general opinions on the name? Thanks

I think of it as very 70s.

user1493494961 · 27/10/2020 17:54

Dated.

duggeeismynewbestfriend · 27/10/2020 17:55

I have a brother Sean he is lovely. It's a great name. Yes it has Irish connections, I'm Irish but he lives in North America and gets on very well. So it works internationally. Oh and he was born in the mid 90's

Nymeriastark1 · 27/10/2020 17:55

I like it, would of been one of our choices if we had any boys.

ifiwasascent · 27/10/2020 17:58

Really don't like it. It's a really harsh sounding name

chickenninja · 27/10/2020 18:09

My brother is Sean too, we are English. He's always liked his name, to my knowledge. Except when he couldn't find a keyring with his name on.
I really like this spelling too, don't be tempted with 'Shaun'.
If he has a sister I can share plenty of nicknames? Prawn, Sheep Grin

MikeUniformMike · 27/10/2020 18:28

It's fine. It was popular in the 1970s. i don't like the spelling Shaun or Shawn.

Carrotcakey · 27/10/2020 18:30

It’s a nice name. DD 7 goes to school with one (not Irish) and although I know a lot of them in their 30s I’ve never really thought of it as dated.

JuliaJohnston · 27/10/2020 18:32

I love it.

Alwayswaiting · 27/10/2020 18:35

I have a 9 year old Sean - we are second generation Irish, and it links to my husbands grandfathers name, I’ve always liked it Smile

RealLifeHotWaterBottle · 27/10/2020 18:36

I think its a lovely name

Yohoheaveho · 27/10/2020 18:37

It's a great name!

CatWithARabbit · 27/10/2020 18:37

Love it !

SionnachRua · 27/10/2020 18:39

Nice name. I really don't think it matters that you aren't Irish - I am Irish btw - as it's become quite popular with non-Irish people. Something like Fiachra or Caoilin might raise eyebrows but Sean is simple enough.

Echoing the others who are saying to not use Shawn or Shaun.

Goneback2school · 27/10/2020 18:41

I've a baby Sean in my family and it really suits him. Go for it.

Connelloni · 27/10/2020 18:51

Love it, it’s a really strong name.

SeanCailleach · 27/10/2020 18:53

If I were to use it outside of Ireland I would go for Shaun. Sean is pronounced shan and means "old". Seán is a lovely classic name.

MikeUniformMike · 27/10/2020 18:59

It rhymes with ran?

SparkyBlue · 27/10/2020 19:09

I love it. It's a lovely classic name. I'm Irish so I know lots of Sean's of all ages.

BabloHoney · 27/10/2020 19:16

Lovely. Think it would be really refreshing to hear a baby called Sean!

Deadringer · 27/10/2020 19:21

I love Sean, i think it's a very strong, manly name.

Lovemylittlebear · 27/10/2020 19:24

Love it :)

JanewaysBun · 27/10/2020 19:30

Very cute. I know an adult sean, no idea of his heritage but i think it's a nice name

Firebird83 · 27/10/2020 19:42

I think it’s handsome.

Pieceofpurplesky · 27/10/2020 19:48

I have been teaching over 20 years and there are always a Sean or two on roll (less now). So I don't see it as dated as others do. I like it. Simple and unfussy.

Also Sean Bean.
