Demi Moores. I can't, can I?

I promise it's not after the actress. I've had Demi in mind my entire life. I've bloody gone and married into the only surname that I can't really use it with!

No You can't. You Just cant.

Yennefer19 · 26/10/2020 09:32

Would you be able to use Moores as a middle name instead and then use your maiden name as the surname?

thecakebadge · 26/10/2020 09:35

Nope. Middle name only I think.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 26/10/2020 09:46

My sister had this dilemma a couple of years ago and just couldn't do it. The person is too famous to not recognise the name.

I always loved a name growing up but then married a man with a surname that rhymes! ie Joe Toe but obviously not those names.

Definitely a middle name.

PrincessButtockUp · 26/10/2020 09:51

If your surname was Mann, could you call your daughter Isla? I think you need to let go of Demi, sorry.

AllForYOuu · 26/10/2020 09:54

I always loved the name Harry; but I married a potter...I couldn't do it )-:

inappropriateraspberry · 26/10/2020 09:58

I like Jessica, but married a Simpson!

Ninkanink · 26/10/2020 10:15

No, you can’t.

But it’s honestly not a great name, so you’ve done yourself a favour, really.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 26/10/2020 10:24

You can't do that to your kid.
I wanted Dd to be Julia didn't happen with our surname

SeanCailleach · 26/10/2020 10:52

I don't see why not. Except Demi means "half". Is it short for something else? Jemma, Jamie, any use?

Enko · 26/10/2020 12:34

No I wouldn't

MikeUniformMike · 26/10/2020 12:37

Call her Bobbie.

BorderlineHappy · 26/10/2020 12:58

Give Demi as a middle name.

ParadeOfRemotes · 26/10/2020 13:01

Also avoid Mandy and Yorkshire

FizzyGreenWater · 26/10/2020 13:32

You also have a surname...?

user1493494961 · 26/10/2020 13:33

Luckily you can't.

JuliaJohnston · 26/10/2020 13:35

No. It's awful, anyway. It literally means half, or a partial amount.

DowntonCrabby · 26/10/2020 13:36

Well of course you could but I definitely wouldn’t.

You’d get very bored of everyone finding it funny/commenting forever.

Demi as a middle name maybe?

Terrace58 · 26/10/2020 13:37

I have a coworker with the last name Spears who named her daughter Britney.

I would not make a similar choice.

TheArchFear · 26/10/2020 13:40

@ParadeOfRemotes

Also avoid Mandy and Yorkshire
😁😁😁
Coffeecak3 · 26/10/2020 13:52

I have , through work, seen the names Elizabeth Taylor, Ronald McDonald, Dolores Parton and a Mrs Blackadder.
If you like Demi Moore just use it. It’s not as if she’s a state figure or serial killer.

TicTacTwo · 26/10/2020 13:59

Anybody here share a name with a celebrity?

I worked with a Christian Slater who hated any reference to the famous actor.

floofycroissant · 26/10/2020 13:59

Surely no one below the age of 30 even knows who she is anymore? If you love it then go for it.

Defenbaker · 26/10/2020 14:08

Just because you can do something, it doesn't mean you should.

Also, it's strange to name a baby with a word that means "half"... the literal implication being that the baby is lacking in some way.
