Which spelling do you think is nicer? We're absolutely settled on the name, but which spelling looks better? Thanks.

Personally I prefer the Keira spelling. Love the name, was a consideration for my DD.

xyzandabc · 23/10/2020 22:20

Keira

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/10/2020 22:27

Ciara

DramaAlpaca · 23/10/2020 23:53

I think I'd go for a third option - Kiera.

I like the Irish spelling Ciara too, but you'll get it pronounced kee-ARE-ah in the UK.

Oneandabean · 23/10/2020 23:53

Kiera
@WiseUpJanetWeiss Ciara is a different name, pronounced differently

RaininSummer · 23/10/2020 23:56

I would pronounce Kira differently to Keira so would pick the latter.

Kanaloa · 23/10/2020 23:58

I would say Keira.

DramaAlpaca · 24/10/2020 00:01

Ciara is a different name, pronounced differently

The Irish name Ciara is pronounced exactly the same as Kira/Kiera/Keira.

LizzieAnt · 24/10/2020 00:14

@DramaAlpaca is right. Ciara is always pronounced like Keira in Ireland, ciar (keer) meaning dark.

GreenPlum · 24/10/2020 00:17

Kiera

BackforGood · 24/10/2020 00:19

I've only ever heard Ciara being pronounced the same as Keira.
How else would you say it ?

I prefer Keira to Kira, but think it is one of those names that people will get a bit mixed up with throughout her life.

AntiHop · 24/10/2020 00:21

Love it!

Kira

DustyLoafer · 24/10/2020 00:23

Ciara.

starfishmummy · 24/10/2020 00:25

Kira - probably because I know one irl. But also it's going to solve the Kiera/Keira issue and other people getting it wrong!

marjolaine · 24/10/2020 00:25

Kira. Almost named DD this but the closeness to Keira put me off. Think it’s Persian for Sun which is nice.

Dora26 · 24/10/2020 00:26

Ciara - definitely same pronunciation- my niece is Ciara

MikeUniformMike · 24/10/2020 00:31

I'd use a name that doesn't have different spellings.

Oneandabean · 24/10/2020 00:32

I’ve only heard Ciara pronounced with the c being a see sound, as pp stated Kira/Kiera/Keira can all be pronounced differently too so best pick the spelling that matches pronunciation

OchonAgusOchonO · 24/10/2020 00:37

Kira/Kiera just look wrong to me. I assume they are anglicisations of the Irish name Ciara?

As far as I'm concerned, Ciara is the correct spelling and the others just look like you don't know how to spell the name correctly.

Of course, I could be completely wrong and Kira/Kiera are perfectly valid names from another language. In which case, I apologise and have no opinion.

Kote · 24/10/2020 00:44

I prefer Keira.

I think the other pronunciation a PP was referring to is like the singer Ciara - something like see-air-a or see-ar-a

tcjotm · 24/10/2020 00:55

Keira is also an Australian aboriginal name. We have a Mt Keira (and other Keira placenames nearby). It means large lagoon or high mountain.

BackforGood · 24/10/2020 01:00

I’ve only heard Ciara pronounced with the c being a see sound

Like 'Sierra' (nice car in it's day) you mean ?

How is that pronounced?

I'm assuming Kayra but obviously could be completely wrong.

What language would that be? Chiara is Italian but I'm not aware of Ciara in any language other than Irish.
Nacomi · 24/10/2020 02:34

Kira. My friend is called Kira and it is nice and simple. I think if you use Keira, some people might not know how to pronounce it
