I have an Elodie, it's a great name and really suits her. She has a silly family nickname and doesn't get Ella or Ellie.

Not keen on Etta personally.

Whatsyourflava · 18/10/2020 08:22

Love both Etta and Elodie - hard for me to pick - excellent choices.
Both would work well regardless of origin.

BeMorePacific · 18/10/2020 08:26

I love Etta. It’s definitely the cooler choice out of the 2 x

Creamteafatty · 18/10/2020 10:58

Etta

Etta*

Creamteafatty · 18/10/2020 11:07

Enya?

Milkshake7489 · 18/10/2020 18:14

Both are beautiful but Elodie wins for me!

Magicbabywaves · 18/10/2020 18:16

Etta.

WatchOutTheSkyIsFalling · 18/10/2020 18:22

Elodie. Don't like Etta at all.

bridgetreilly · 18/10/2020 19:00

I don't love Etta but I loathe Elodie.

Could you call her Juliet or Harriet or something, and then have Etta as a nickname?

TempsPerdu · 18/10/2020 19:20

Definitely Etta for me - much stronger name. I’m slightly biased though as DD is Greta - similar sound and we sometimes use Ettie/Etta for short.

Firebird83 · 18/10/2020 23:44

Neither! Etta is harsh sounding and a bit nothingy. Elodie is prissy.

Heh1991 · 19/10/2020 00:36

I prefer Etta as it’s a bit punchier and more unusual. Both lovely names for you- responses seem very mixed so feel for you having to make a decision! X

AKissAndASmile · 19/10/2020 00:44

Elodie is gorgeous. I'm surprised people are saying it's overdone: I've only met one in my life and that was 20 years ago. She was French. Maybe it's a common name in France.

Barryisland · 19/10/2020 01:02

Etta was the Basque Separatist Terrorist group. So no to that name for me.

Elodie is a pretty name.

MikeUniformMike · 19/10/2020 09:42

Elodie is french and sounds pretty in French. Amelie is too, but both sound quite plain in an english accent

MegaBloxRoxx · 19/10/2020 11:14

Elodie isn't even in the top 100, so hardly overdone

ShipOfTheseus · 19/10/2020 15:16

Etta was the Basque Separatist Terrorist group

That was ETA.

ClinkeyMonkey · 19/10/2020 19:34

I completely agree with MikeUniform - Elodie is beautiful when pronounced with a French accent and very unremarkable with an English accent. Worse still in my NI accentGrin

As for Etta, nobody where I live seems to pronounce their t's, so it would be sloppily pronounced as Edda. Whether it sounds appealing depends where you're from I guess.

AKissAndASmile · 19/10/2020 19:58

Elodie spoken by the woman's mum was such a beautiful sound that I made a mental note of the name at the age of 20-odd. I've been trying to pronounce it myself since you started this thread, and have been thinking: "hold on, it doesn't sound right'. The name Melody would probably sound better in an English accent, but I'd wager loads of people would find that 'common'

picklecustard · 19/10/2020 21:22

Etta could be a bit tricky for accents that drop the ‘t’ from words, for example can’t imagine someone from Newcastle being able to say it very well.

paperclippink · 20/10/2020 03:03

Etta is wonderfully simple and sounds great.

carben · 20/10/2020 21:51

Etta James was born Jamesetta Hawkins. It was her Manager who created her stage name transposing her first name into Etta James.

Cressie2 · 25/10/2020 11:21
