Hey everyone! I was wondering what u all thought on the name Draco. I know it has the harry Potter connection but I don't really care about that and by the time I have kids I don't think harry potter will be as big. I love that it's a constellation and the meaning is dragon as I can use that for a nn. Honestly tho what are ur thoughts on it

Draconian!

So. No.

Also, isn't there a drain cleaning product called ''Draco'' I'm fairly sure I used it to clean my drain.

WiserOwl · 12/10/2020 08:20

No sorry, that is Drano

EriAndo · 12/10/2020 08:21

Don’t do it. It’s like calling a child Basilisk.

goldrabbit22 · 12/10/2020 08:45

I immediately assumed it's short for Dracula.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 12/10/2020 08:49

I bet his father would be hearing about it.

GU24Mum · 12/10/2020 08:50

If you really want to use it, can't it be a middle name instead?

badacorn · 12/10/2020 09:06

Bad idea OP. It is going to be a long, long time before HP is forgotten.

TheyAreMinerals · 12/10/2020 09:13

As someone with a name noone has ever been able to spell or pronounce, that a TEACHER made fun of on my first day at a new school, I beg everyone not to give their children any "cute", "original" or "quirky" names. Childhood is hard enough with a name that attracts attention or provides additional opportunities for ridicule. I'm 57 and my name still embarasses me.

Though judging by TV everyone in the US makes up a stupid name these days, usually beginning with "Mc". Why?

gottakeeponmovin · 12/10/2020 09:14

You have got to be kidding

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 12/10/2020 09:16

Sounds like a name for a character in a vampire programme.

MidnightFlit · 12/10/2020 09:41

I would guess that one of the reasons JK Rowling chose that name for a villain was BECAUSE there weren't going to be any/many kids called Draco who'd then be teased at school.

MsTSwift · 12/10/2020 09:43

Are you still a teen yourself?

Yesterdayforgotten · 12/10/2020 09:45

Makes me think of Dracula and vampires... I don't like it

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/10/2020 09:47

Sorry, OP. Harry Potter is going nowhere.

Drake? (as long as you like ducks too)

ChelseaCat · 12/10/2020 09:49

Dreadful

Notajogger · 12/10/2020 09:55

Please don't do that to a child!

BlackberrySky · 12/10/2020 09:55

Definitely not as a first name. For almost everyone your child meets the only connotation of Draco will be cowardly bully in Harry Potter with bottle blonde hair. As a middle name you could probably get away with it.

Aquarius15 · 12/10/2020 09:55

I prefer Dobby, nn Dob Grin

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 12/10/2020 10:05

What about just Drake? You could use Draco as a nickname at home

Pudding01 · 12/10/2020 10:09

It doesn't offend me, but I don't like it. Sorry x

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 12/10/2020 10:09

🤣 do you mean you are going to use dragon as a nn?

MimiDaisy11 · 12/10/2020 10:14

You say you could use the nickname "Dragon" but personally, that makes me cringe. I don't think it works. Sorry. And despite you not bothering about the Harry Potter link that will be the main association children and adults will have.

Brighterthansunflowers · 12/10/2020 10:26

no way, it’s much too linked to Harry Potter and that will be everybody’s first association (and not even a nice character).

You can insist it’s after the constellation til you’re blue in the face but everyone will still assume HP

PattyPan · 12/10/2020 10:49

Definitely not. People will hear it and immediately think Malfoy, and that’s really not a positive connection. If you want a constellation what about Leo or Orion? Leo means lion so still has the animal connection as well.

TheVanguardSix · 12/10/2020 10:50

Awful.
