DH and I are expecting our DD2. We have a 3 year old named Renata. I am Colombian and he's English.

The first time around it was easy, we both liked the name and there wasn't much of a compromise going on. Since we used DH surname, he agreed on her having a more 'Spanish' sounding first name. This time around he's been leaning more towards English names such as Imogen, Scarlett, etc which I feel would totally mismatch our first daughter.

The only name we both slightly agree on is Carlota but we are not over the moon about it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm running out of inspiration!

Pudding01 · 06/10/2020 17:00

What about Isabel (Spanish spelling?)

bridgetreilly · 06/10/2020 17:04

They do not need to match.

Enko · 06/10/2020 17:06

Liliana
Lucia
Catalina
Mariana
Elisa
Vivian(a)
Rosa
Linda
Ramona (I love this name but not sure if it will go with your dd)

MikeUniformMike · 06/10/2020 17:25

Renata is lovely. Agree that the second name doesn't need to match but I was going to suggest Ramona too, and then I glanced at the last post.

Normally, I'm not keen on using the same letter. Carlota is nice, Camila is quite pretty.

I think given the mixed heritage, something more Colombian than Scarlett or Imogen. I'd also avoid the very popular names like Elena, Sofia and Isabel.

I had a look for Latina baby names and Mireia is the one that caught my eye. I also like Soledad.

Is there a family name - maybe a great-grandmother's or aunt's - that you could use? Or the name of a colmbian woman that you admre?

florascotia2 · 06/10/2020 17:51

I once worked with a truly lovely Columbian woman called Julia. That's a pretty international name, and classical, and pretty.
If I remember correctly, she had a family member named Clementina; that's also a name that travels well.

daisypond · 06/10/2020 17:52

Mila

Ruthietuthie · 06/10/2020 17:58

Marisol??

LarkDescending · 06/10/2020 18:04

Clemencia?

CeibaTree · 06/10/2020 18:23

I know three sisters called Renata, Maria and Petra if that helps.

Changedname81 · 06/10/2020 18:25

I’m always a bit “torn” over names “not needing to match”. Yes I agree they don’t need to be Maisy and Daisy, but if you had something frilly like Esmerelda, it’s unlikely you’d then pick, for example, Janet; they are completely different styles.

(No offense to any Esmereldas or Janets)

I really like Carlota and Imelda

Good luck Grin

AuntyPasta · 06/10/2020 19:06

Catalina?

Firebird83 · 06/10/2020 19:13

I think Renata and Carlota go really well together

TracyMosby · 06/10/2020 19:23

Clemencia is lovely. Ive taught one recently.
I nearly called dd Esmerelda
I love Petra.

These are my favourites from a webpage entitled names that work well in both spanish and english:
Gabriela
Antonella.
Alma
Carla
Luisa
Paloma

Krazynights34 · 06/10/2020 19:25

Robina
Rumena
Tallulah
Mari
Belen
Helena
Camille (I know these aren’t specifically Spanish sounding but I think of them as less classically English
Carmen

coronabeer · 06/10/2020 19:29

Cristina or Carolina? I think they "go" with Renata. Julia also nice, as suggested above.

MimiDaisy11 · 06/10/2020 20:00

I guess it's hard as the most popular names crossover, but you might not like Sophia/Sofia, Isabella etc if they're so popular at the moment.

Some others that work for both:
Lucia
Luciana
Selena
Adriana

I know some people said Julia, but although spelt the same it sounds so different in both languages I don't know if that'd be an issue.

WhiskySour83 · 06/10/2020 20:55

I have a Colombian friend called Milena, which I think is a lovely name and seems to work in English.

copperoliver · 06/10/2020 22:09

How about Charlotta a mixture a bit of Spanish and English together. X

Auto · 06/10/2020 22:45

Sanchia
Ines
Angelica
Luisa
Monica
Sara

FizzyGreenWater · 08/10/2020 10:04

The same applies: if she has his surname, the first name is your choice. Agree it should match the other, as it's from your 'culture' - dd2 might feel that she didn't get that link that DD1 did if you go for an 'English' sounding name.

Love Marisol.

Cristina?
Ana?

MikeUniformMike · 08/10/2020 11:07

I can't see Charlotta working. it reads like Char (like cup of char) Lotta.

How about something like Carolina (Carol-eena)?

CormoranStrike · 08/10/2020 11:18

Elena or Sophia
