How about combining the two names. Neah. Neah bay is a beautiful spot in Washington state, I fell in love with the name when I visited a few years ago.

Popskipiekin · 15/09/2020 04:50

Ah that’s tough he’s backtracking so close to birth - but at least he likes your name? Grin
What about Leonie? Friends of ours with a daughter of that name abbreviate it sometimes to a name which sounds like “nee-nee” - it doesn’t feel such a leap to use Nina as a nickname for Leonie, would be buy a longer name starting with L with Nina as an abbreviation?

Popskipiekin · 15/09/2020 04:51

would he* (your DH!) buy
Or what about Lena?

5longdaystogo · 15/09/2020 05:27

Nisha is growing on me, its pronounced the same as the Irish name Naoise, DS has an Irish name but its in the top 20 where we live and no one has had an issue with it so far, whereas Naoise is far less known and originally a boys name.
Would it be weird using Nisha? Weve no Indian heritage at all!

I like Nisha better than Nina.
I also like Frankie and Anna from your list (and like them more than Nina).
Tessa
Greta
Anya

Renee is gorgeous, by far the best on your list imo

ILoveStickers · 15/09/2020 06:47

Naoise is lovely - I know a (female) Naoise. Although it's not well known, I think it's guessable, because people know aoi from Aoife, and s from Siobhan etc.

Nisha is also nice!

TweeBree · 15/09/2020 06:53

Anna.

Ellmau · 15/09/2020 10:59

Anita? Nita for short.
Annis?

Faceicle · 15/09/2020 11:02

Naomi? Mimi? Ngaio?

inappropriateraspberry · 15/09/2020 11:05

I know a Nisha, not at all Indian/Asian! Lovely name, unusual but easy to read and pronounce!!

LizzieAnt · 15/09/2020 14:31

Naoise is still a boys' name for me I'm afraid.
Niamh?
Of your DH's other suggestions I like Anna the best.

VenusClapTrap · 15/09/2020 15:48

Nerine? It’s a beautiful flower.

VenusClapTrap · 15/09/2020 15:49
  • and they are just coming into bloom now, so perfect for a September baby!
FolkSongSweet · 15/09/2020 17:04

Yes Naoise is a boy’s name - do you know the legend? He’s famously Deirdre’s lover. It’s like when people call boys Artemis - it just seems uneducated to me.

Nisha is better but might get nish-a to rhyme with dish. Neesha might be easier?

I also like Frankie, Anna and Charlotte. Less a fan of Chloe and Renee.

autumnkate · 15/09/2020 17:07

Anna is lovely.

Nisha will get pronounced Nish-a for sure rather than Neesha.

I really like a pp suggestion of Nia/ Neah

Coffeecak3 · 15/09/2020 17:10

Anna is beautiful, timeless and not over used.

Userzzz · 15/09/2020 17:14

I think it’s so sweet he wants to use your name.
As a side note, men name their sons after themselves, why can’t women? I almost wish I had named my daughter after myself. It’s not a common thing to do and I’m sure I’d be branded a lunatic.
Rene is nice.

5longdaystogo · 15/09/2020 17:14

I do like Anna but its very popular where i am, top 10 for the last 7 years. Also it was common when i was at school and i feel its a little boring maybe? I dont know, its so difficult!

Yes i agree it is very sweet, I really liked my name growing up as it wasnt popular but easy to grasp, occasionally got lee etc but was never phased, looking for something with a similar vibe

How is Nina hard to say?

MJMG2015 · 15/09/2020 17:26

Out of your list I like Chloe.

I have a cousin Nina. It's a very 'hard' name & she used to get neee naw nee naw. At school!

Londonborncatty · 15/09/2020 17:33

I think Nina is the opposite of hard. I love it, it’s a strong, sophisticated but pretty name and seems easy to pronounce, but if your husband doesn’t like it, nothing you can do. Renee is lovely but always an issue with some people pronouncing it ree knee.

Londonborncatty · 15/09/2020 17:34

Naomi is lovely as is Claudia.
