Sienna or Maeve - I am really struggling to choose between these two names! Opinions?

You put Sienna first on your post OP, perhaps you favour that choice?

wishing3 · 11/09/2020 18:16

Think I’d go Sienna.

Kidneybingo · 11/09/2020 18:18

Maeve is lovely

GreyShadow · 11/09/2020 18:19

Maeve

Ilen · 11/09/2020 18:21

Maeve is just awful. It is a geriatric name like Enid, or Ethel and I can't understand the adoration for it.

The people who think Maeve is 'geriatric' are confusing it with the English name Mavis. Maeve is a badass warrior queen in Irish myth, legendary for her numerous battles and lovers, and holds a place more like Sophia or Imogen or Thea than Ethel or Enid.

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2020 18:27

It's an example of what happens when name from another language goes mainstream with an anglicised pronunciation.

Cherrylipbalm · 11/09/2020 18:28

Sienna, it's lovely

Maeve is awful sounding, frumpy and reminds me of the name Dave

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2020 18:28

@Ilen, Enid was a celtic goddess.

Jane1727 · 11/09/2020 18:28

I like them both.

No, really not. Even old geriatric names may have had a really good original meaning or source, but that doesn't stop them from having a current connotation.

It sounds much better with an Irish accent, softer, but I still don't like it because of how it is said here.

Readandwalk · 11/09/2020 19:24

Maeve is a highly regarded name in Ireland.

Grrretel · 11/09/2020 19:26

I prefer Maeve and think it is more timeless.

Sienna is a lovely name but is very of the time, like Harper.

TheChristmasPrincess · 11/09/2020 20:28

They are both lovely names.

I think Maeve is a little bit clunky looking and kind of looks old ladyish (Mavis, Mae, Maud) but one that’s cute and coming back in style (Elsie, Ada, Mabel). It’s very strong sounding and bad ass.

Sienna has a slightly more modern vibe to it but is probably trendier and definitely more popular (I know a few Siennas). It is ultra feminine and very musical sounding. But it does also sound like the laxative Senna and Senokot.

So I would probably choose Maeve.

StayClosePooky · 11/09/2020 22:26

Love Sienna, I wanted it for DD. But another family member beat me to it :(

itsjakeandamy · 11/09/2020 22:30

I don't love either but much prefer Maeve to Sienna.

Persipan · 11/09/2020 22:32

To me, Maeve kicks ass and takes names, whereas Sienna wafts delicately around near a lily pond. On that basis I personally would go Maeve!

audreyand · 11/09/2020 22:32

Maeve by miles. Sienna seems faddy

Tabletoppp · 11/09/2020 22:36

Definitely Maeve!

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 11/09/2020 22:39

Maeve, but I would spell it Méabh.

Sienna is nice, but a bit..... trendy.

NatalieH2220 · 11/09/2020 22:40

Definitely Sienna

BenoneBeauty · 11/09/2020 22:42

That's exactly what I was thinking @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet - that spelling is fab!

Yankathebear · 11/09/2020 22:42

Maeve is elegant and classy. Sienna is the opposite.

MercyBodle · 12/09/2020 03:50

I much prefer Maeve.

ILoveStickers · 12/09/2020 07:07

Like both, but they're very different.

I personally would say Méabh is better than both! I really get the strong warrior woman vibe from that spelling.

Also less confusion with Mavis that way, I think.
