Really like the name Jaya for our little girl. Would be pronounced "jay-a".

I went to school with a Jaya that rhymed with hiya and thought it was a lovely name.

I find your Jay-a pronunciation a slight mouthful. It's not dreadful, but there are plenty of nicer choices.

It's a classic case of seeing something written down and not even checking the pronunciation before deciding it would be a perfect name for your child. Honestly! Work a little harder.

I read it rhyming with "hiya" so I think they would have that confusion a lot.
I know a Jayla, I didn't love the name at first but it's grown on me as the little girl is a delight!

I've only ever heard it pronounced like hiya too. I think it would get mispronounced all the time, especially if there's much of a Hindu community in your area and people are familiar with the traditional pronunciation.

@user58 I’m going against the grain here but I love that name. I’m a teacher and taught the most wonderful little girl (who was not of Indian heritage I may add) names Jeya. She was an absolute delight and I’ve loved the name ever since.
