How do you deal with negative reactions to your baby name?

So I made the error or telling people the names we are thinking of calling our next baby due soon. I guess I'm just really excited and didnt see it as a big deal. As I did with my DD and I got mixed reactions then and I really didnt care, now everyone loves her name. I dont know what I'm having this time. We have got a top name for both, we love them. But we have had about 90% bad reactions, we have only told immediate family and a few close friends who ask.
I am not necessarily thinking of changing my mind, but nothing is set in stone. But lets say I do change my mind, everyone will be like oh thank God you didnt call her that for her whole life. I guess it's my fault. I should of kept my mouth shut. But its starting to put doubts in my mind slightly. In no way are my names offensive IMO, its not like Lucifer or anything Haha, not that that's offensive IMO! I have mentioned the names on other posts and got mixed reactions but I'm looking for more advice moving forward. Did you have a similar experience? Do people get over it? Did anyone say anything once they were born to you?

I don't get any sex worker or chavvy connotations from that name. I think people re overthinking it and that when the baby comes it will become "normal" to them.

Spidey66 · 11/09/2020 10:12

I like Clementine.

I do like Roxanna/Roxanne, but I'll be honest, I associate it with the song. If you'd decided on, say, Rhiannon, (also a lovely name) I'd also associate it with the song.....the difference being Rhiannon wasn't about a prostitute!

Spidey66 · 11/09/2020 10:17

Ps I like the name Lola too.....but also associate it with a cross dresser snogging Ray Davies in a club in North Soho! Funny how associations stay with you.

Spidey66 · 11/09/2020 10:19

Old Soho, nor North Soho. My bad.

Whatsyourflava · 11/09/2020 10:25

Roxana is one of my favourite names. Adore it
Clementine amazing too.
You have great taste.
People will get used to the name, it's not a stripper name whatsoever

Pinkypink · 11/09/2020 10:54

Love Clementine. Like Roxana. Not keen on Roxy -just my pref.
When I was introduced to my husband's older uncle's they both sang the same 1940s song with my name in it. I had never heard of. So I would imagine the Roxanne song will be even less of an issue for your daughter and her peers.

Itsrainingnotmen · 11/09/2020 10:57

My dd has a known to be chavvy name. Couldn't care less tbh.
Every single brings a connection to somebody about something..
She loves it, don't know any others of the name.
Roxanna is lovely..

mvmvmvmv · 11/09/2020 10:57

That's a lovely name.

Clemmie is a nice nickname too Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 11/09/2020 11:01

I'm confused, is it Clemmantine or Roxana?

ivfbeenbusy · 11/09/2020 11:14

So what's the name????

Clementine is ok - bit of a mouthful and no one will ever use her full name which then raises the question why give her it in the first place? Buts it's not that bad

Lola - is actually an unlucky name - I think it means "sorrows"

I'm guessing you've gone with something like Scarlett or Ruby? Both I suppose have some chavvy aspects?

micc · 11/09/2020 11:21

Clementine is my daughters name,
Roxana is the name we are thinking. Cody for a boy :)

Thanks for all your nice comments I thought so. I think I just needed reassurance I wasnt doing something horrible like some reactions made me feel!

If you love the names then don't change (just learn the lesson that it's better not to share your name IRL before the baby is born if you don't want opinions)

FWIW I like Roxana and although Cody isn't a name I would choose there is absolutely nothing wrong with it

micc · 11/09/2020 11:22

Sorry for clarification Roxana and Cody is the name we are thinking for baby due soon:) Clemmie is school age now :)

There's potentially something bad to be said about every single name and there's not a name that will be liked universally. I think you just have to accept that it won't be everyone's cup of tea but that you like it. We don't meet people as adults and I think "I really like them because they have such a great name."
The character of the wearer of the name overtakes the name itself in the end.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 11/09/2020 11:29

I love the name Clementine & Clemmie.
I also like Roxana, partly because I live the nn Roxy! I wouldn’t choose Cody, but I have absolutely no negative feelings towards it! My friend has very American sounding names for her children & although they’re not my sort of names as soon as I’ve met the baby, it’s their name & I don’t really think about it!

SleepingStandingUp · 11/09/2020 11:54

@micc

Clementine is my daughters name, Roxana is the name we are thinking. Cody for a boy :)

Ah ok. Clementine is gorgeous.

Cody is quite American but that isn't a criticism, it's super cute and I like Roxana NN Roxy too

user1493494961 · 11/09/2020 12:05

Clementine is lovely, I don't like Roxanna or Cody, they have a different vibe to Clementine.

Tsubasa1 · 11/09/2020 12:08

Hi OP I like the name Roxanna, but I prefer the nicknames Xanna or Rox.

TNG74 · 11/09/2020 12:17

Roxy is a great name Smile

mvmvmvmv · 11/09/2020 12:53

I love Roxanna! Roxy is a fabulous nick name. Sounds sassy and fiery!

Cody wouldn't be a name I would choose personally, but there is nothing wrong with it, it's just about personal taste. I can't think of any negatives of the name

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2020 13:17

If you like it OP, use it. Roxy rhymes with Poxy, though.

WiserOlder · 11/09/2020 13:24

Diverse tastes! Clemmie is so upper class.

Newgirls · 11/09/2020 13:28

I know a clem and it’s a fab name

Roxy is very cool. Roxanne is very known but why not reclaim it.

BabyLlamaZen · 11/09/2020 13:48

Roxana is beautiful BTW! Not chavvy at all. Confused

BabyLlamaZen · 11/09/2020 13:51

Also op, the fact there are so many different views on this shows how it is not 'obviously chavvy'or 'obviously stripper'.

Also marmite names are far more interesting. Grin
