Saffron

I'm looking for one syllable names (Thanks for everyones help on my last post!) and I've come across the name Saffron to be shortened to Saff.
I kinda (really) like it but my husband things its, to quote him "chavvy".
Does it sound daft? What would you think if you came across someone called Saffron?

I love it, it would be on my shortlist but we sadly already know one. I like the nickname Saffy, but know you said you want a one syllable name.

I was going to comment how lovely Saffron was.

But Saff? Really awful imo. Is Saffron really too long or difficult to pronounce?

I really like it, but why would you choose it if you are set on a one-syllable name? NNs have a life of their own, so she may end up preferring Saffron or Saffie, or other people may just end up calling her one of those because it suits her better.

Saffron is lovely, I used to work with one.

Saff is horrible.

Saffron and Saffy are lovely (although it does give me Ab Fab vibes, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as she’s the sensible one!)

Saff is just...strange.

I used to work with a Saf (short for something else) and it didn’t seem strange, she was just Saf and we all accepted it as her name.

The only Saffron, Saff for short, I know is impossibly posh and really lovely.

Saffron is lovely. Saff sounds like a nn for sapphire which I don't like at all.

Saf sounds a bit like "Saaaaf London" to my ear.

Saffy is fine though.

Ditch the one syllable idea. It won't work.

Saffron is nice. Not so keen on Staff. Saffy is nice enough and that is what it is more likely to get shortened to. Or maybe Sappho, though I think that is more of a diminutive of Sapphire.

Saffron is middle class... Who on earth told you that? Very bizarre assertion to make.

One syllable, I'd use Bea. Or Dot. Or Kate. But I'd certainly use the longer version of the name (Beatrice, Dorothy, Katherine) on the BC in case your child fancies having an adult name as, you know, an adult...

Surprised no-one has mentioned Saffron from Ab Fab.

DD is Saffron. I call her Saff or Saffron. Her friends call her Saffie. She won't allow me to call her Saffie because I'm her mum not her friend.

Very Ab Fab.
Saf is uber chavy though.
