I am massively going round in circles here... but... thoughts in these two? Baby due in 3 weeks, don't know the sex!

I like them both. What do you prefer for a nickname, Greg or Frank? Because that’s probably what his mates will call him as he gets older, even if you insist on the full name as a child.

Mamette · 27/08/2020 21:03

Francis

badg3r · 27/08/2020 21:04

I think I like Greg more than frank but do really like fran as a nickname (massive travis fan in my day!). I had considered using them both as a first and middle name, but worried it is a bit too many Pope names!!

I like Gregor.

Gregory was on my list. Underrated name.

TheRosariojewels · 27/08/2020 21:23

Gregor

Joolsin · 27/08/2020 21:34

Love Gregor (not keen on Greg, though)
Don't like Francis at all.

Mashingthecompost · 27/08/2020 21:35

Prefer Gregory to Gregor. Fran is cute too though. Greg is an underrated name, agree with PP.

DramaAlpaca · 27/08/2020 21:40

I love Gregor.

Francis is OK but middle name territory only for me as I don't like any of the diminutives. I think of Fran as a girls' name.

LunaLoved · 27/08/2020 21:45

Really dislike Francis. Its a 'wet' sounding name.

Gregor is fab.

Firebird83 · 27/08/2020 23:35

Both are great! I think I prefer Francis

MikeUniformMike · 28/08/2020 19:46

Which sounds best with the surname?

Prefer Greg to Fran/Frank.

Gregor Badger or Francis Badger
Greg Badger or Fran(k) Badger?

Rachellow · 28/08/2020 22:49

Francis is posh but Gregor is just odd tbh. Greg is quite a dad name, and I think you'll get quite a lot of people thinking it's Gregory.

badg3r · 28/08/2020 23:24

@MikeUniformMike they both sound good with the surname although I find Francis rolls off the tongue less easily.

Funny that some people think Gregor is a bit of a curve ball, I grew up in Scotland and there were a couple in every year so it feels like a normal name to me. Didn't know anyone called Gregory till after I left home. Is it maybe a regional thing?

Gregor Francis.

I like both names but not the nn Frank for anyone under 50.

whatausername · 29/08/2020 00:21

Gregor. Francis is okay but I really dislike Fran and Frank.

mintich · 29/08/2020 00:29

Gregor. Its on my baby list!

Tavannach · 29/08/2020 00:30

Yeah, it's regional (if Scotland and England are regions).
I've never known a Gregor called Greg - it's Gregory that gets shortened.

alexdgr8 · 29/08/2020 00:31

Francis i think, but both are good.
Gregor sounds foreign to me, European, which is ok but might lead to questions/assumptions that one parent is from somewhere non-English speaking.
Gregory is the more standard name.
let the children make up or evolve their own nick-names, if any.
you say you don't know the sex; do you intend these for a girl too ?

lockdown555 · 29/08/2020 00:32

Gregor 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

jessstan2 · 29/08/2020 00:34

I prefer Gregory to Gregor and Greg is lovely. Not keen on Francis though quite like Frances for a girl.

LittleLottieChaos · 30/08/2020 05:18

Big Franz Kafka fan?

Flappingflamingo · 30/08/2020 05:26

Gregor. Although personally I prefer Gregory. To me Francis sounds femine

blackteaplease · 30/08/2020 05:51

I have a Gregor, I think 3 people have mistaken it for Gregory in 5 years. Easily corrected though. I'm in England and we get lots of comments on how unusual it is but I also grew up in Scotland where it's more common.

IslandLulu · 30/08/2020 08:11

Gregor - my only association of the name is Gregor Samsa.

Francis is nice, but be aware of quite different regional pronunciations.

Bearcub01 · 30/08/2020 08:56

I love Gregor.

My OH is Francis, I hated it when I first met him but have grown to love it now. He’s never used Frank as a nickname.
