Thoughts?

It's a great name, imo. Timeless.

bridgetreilly · 25/08/2020 10:06

It's fine. I feel like it's such a normal name that I don't really know why you'd need to ask a question about it. What is it that you are concerned about? Either you like it or you don't.

Peachbubble · 25/08/2020 10:07

I like it, a classic.

FippertyGibbett · 25/08/2020 10:08

Love it, classic.

NemoRocksMyWorld · 25/08/2020 10:12

I have an Emily, was the most popular girls name in the year she was born. But no other ones in her preschool. Was only her in her 2 form school year as well until year 3 when another Emily joined. However they bonded over the name and became good friends.

I think it's a really pretty and classic name... Obviously because I chose it! I teamed it with my mums name as a second name which is jocelyn and I love them together. However, I like traditional and normal names, if you want something unique it isn't one to go for!

Ricekrispie22 · 25/08/2020 10:14

It was overused about 25 years ago, but it’s timeless and not used enough these days!

daisypond · 25/08/2020 10:14

It’s a nay from me. I find it a bit ugly and dreary.

Dillydallier · 25/08/2020 10:15

@bridgetreilly

Good question.
I haven’t heard of a young Emily in a while.
Who is using the name these days? Older parents? Younger parents?

How is Emily viewed? Dated? classic? Classy? Common?

My DH is really really keen on Emily, I think it’s nice also, but just don’t know how it’s perceived?

I have an Emily who will be 2 in September. I love it. In my view it’s classic, timeless/ elegant but simple.

I know lots of people think it’s either insipid/ boring (disagree myself!) or over used -but I haven’t met any other Emily’s her age (I probably will when she starts school!). In any event names are popular/ common because they’re nice names! 😁

RaveOm · 25/08/2020 10:19

I think I’ve only met one in my 40 odd years, and that was when I was in brownies. It’s ok, I don’t love it and don’t hate it. It’s a nice name Smile

Whatsyourflava · 25/08/2020 10:41

I think it's a lovely classic name.
I haven't met a young Emily in years.
So I don't really know what kind of parent would pick it. If I had to guess I'd say it's more likely to be chosen by a parent in their 30s and not 20s.

Whatsyourflava · 25/08/2020 10:42

I don't view the name as dated. I view it as a continuous classic

daisypond · 25/08/2020 10:46

The Emilys I know are about aged four or five (three of them) and then a few adults in their late 20s or 30s.

I worked in early years for many years.

Emily is used a lot. Like Amelia.

I consider it 'blah'.

HouchinBawbags · 25/08/2020 10:50

I have a 13 year old Emily. No Emily's in her year or around it. Love the name.

GoodToBeFree · 25/08/2020 10:50

yay

Emeraldshamrock · 25/08/2020 10:51

It is a beautiful name.

tornadoalley · 25/08/2020 10:52

I know far to many Emilys of all age to be keen on it for another child.

Emma1962 · 25/08/2020 10:52

I have an Emily. I think it’s quite a popular name still but she’s not got any other Emily’s in her year group (3 class intake). Lovely name.

popples19 · 25/08/2020 11:03

I have an Emily. I chose it as she was my third girl and honestly just couldn't settle on a name. I loved the eee sound but all other names I found were just a bit too out there for me. We do tend to call her emmie as a nickname. Her middle name is slightly unusual so she could alway use that if she hates it when she is older. Any way I don't regret it, I just wish I had chosen something more unique. I was 23 when I had her and she is now 6. I know one other child the year above her in school. There are a few more around in the playground but not masses of Emily's. I would have chosen Elsie however a new housing development was built at the same time called that so that was the only reason why I didn't pick it.

Whatsyourflava · 25/08/2020 11:17

@popples19 your daughter has a lovely name - plus the numbers of babies called Emily has been dropping each and every year for the past 25 years if you look at the official statistics. Whereas the numbers of babies called Elsie have been increasing every year for 25 years (it's on a pretty huge upswing). In a couple of years times, based on current growth trajectories, Elsie will overtake Emily

20viona · 25/08/2020 11:21

Totally dull.

Workerbee80 · 25/08/2020 11:25

It's a lovely name but very overused.

hellswelshy · 25/08/2020 11:26

I have an Emily, it's a beautiful classic name and suits my girl to a tee. To those saying it's dull..really? Must we all choose wacky far out names or crazy spellings?? Hmm

Dillydallier · 25/08/2020 11:28

@popples19 if it makes you feel better I much much prefer Emily to Elsie.
