Londis?

Ritascornershop · 19/08/2020 05:41

I think it’s a pretty name, but with the d as that’s how I pronounce it, I think it sounds nicer with the d sound in it.

Notverybright · 19/08/2020 05:49

I know a Lyndsay and a Lindsay, both get Lindsey in Christmas cards etc. I wouldn’t skip the d if I were you.

I like the name. Trouble is if you pick a name that’s not ‘dated’ you get a name that eventually becomes very 2010s/20s like otterlie or Isobel.

I like it.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 19/08/2020 05:50

It's okay - if you pick a better spelling.

But you mean a diminutive, or shortening, of the name. A nickname will be whatever other people choose to call her.

Swiftnicola · 19/08/2020 05:56

What about Libby? Short for elizabeth or on its own.

Ellmau · 19/08/2020 07:33

Dated, especially with that spelling.

I thinks it’s very dated sorry. As are Anne and Leigh I can’t imagine a baby toddler using these names but think Elle is very pretty from your list.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 19/08/2020 09:29

Elle is seriously trapped in the 80s! Right now it sounds ... not respectable.

Your suggested names do seem rather dull, OP. Anne requires either a stately home or a royal title to carry any swagger (fine if you possess these things!). Leigh is just - nothing.

Would you consider anything in Ellmau's list?

micc · 19/08/2020 09:41

I like it :)
I would of said Lindsay though. I personally see it as quite an American name, I haven't met any so its un common but everyone knows it. :)

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 19/08/2020 09:49

I know a female Lindsey who's probably in her thirties. She is far more glamorous than her name - more of a Lara, or Xanthe.

Ingridla · 19/08/2020 09:50

Strong dislike am afraid, it's flimsy & weak

BarkandCheese · 19/08/2020 09:57

It is very 80s to me, Lindsey went to school with Gemma, Nicole and Leanne and is now in her thirties. However it’s a nice name and she’ll probably be the only one in her school (although she might find she shares a name with her friend’s mum).

Crystal87 · 19/08/2020 10:24

I'm not keen, sorry. I think it's too dated along the lines of Debbie, Susan etc.

CoalCraft · 19/08/2020 10:27

Had a friend with this name (but spelt differently) growing up, she got called "Linz".

It's a nice name for either gender but I agree with pp re spelling

BigGlasses · 19/08/2020 10:57

I like it, I think its pretty, though I concede not many kids called it these days as it is a bit 1970s. I think it's a nice name which is recognisable and classless. The only issue is the spelling, it really is one of the names with the largest number or variations in spelling.

The most common spelling where I live (scotland) is Lindsey for a girl and Lindsay for a boy. I actually even pronounce them ever so slightly differently Grin . For girls I've also seen Linsey, Lynsey, Lyndsey and Linzie (I dislike this spelling)

emmathedilemma · 19/08/2020 10:58

Isn't Londis a brand of 24-7 shops @DerbyshireGirly??
I know a Lindsey, Linsey and a Lyndsey....all mid 30's - mid 40's so it's definitely a name of that generation for me (and should probably stay there)

sakura06 · 19/08/2020 11:00

It's nice. You don't hear it much. Lindsey is usual spelling for a girl, but Linsey works fine too. I really like 'Lin'.

Spidey66 · 19/08/2020 11:07

Haha I'm an Anne and have neither. (Though do agree it's dated.)
steppemum · 19/08/2020 11:10

i'm not keen. It's just a bit meh.
Definitley use Lindsay or Lindsey.
It is a unisex name, but feels more female to me.

Bubbletrouble43 · 19/08/2020 12:14

I know 2 Lindseys, both in their 40s, both spell it like I have. It's actually a rather lovely name I think.

NC4Now · 19/08/2020 15:21

If you loved Lucy but can’t have it, what about Lucia, Lucille or Louisa?
Or how about Libby?

cptartapp · 19/08/2020 15:31

It's my name and I dislike it. Too many variations on the spelling and very dated I agree. I'm a child of the 70's and it screams that era. Linds is a common nn although one teacher called me Lesley for a full five years.
Somewhat infantile too, as are most names that end with the 'y' sound.
Lots of nicer names to choose.

Thefaceofboe · 19/08/2020 17:57

I really like it :) refreshing to see a different name being suggested

AcrobaticCardigan · 19/08/2020 18:03

I wouldn’t. It’s very dated to the 70s / 80s.

daisypond · 19/08/2020 18:08

I’d spell Lindsey for a girl. But agree it’s dated.
Anne is great, the best of your other options. Elle is nice, but a bit meh. Not keen on Leigh - similar vibe as Lindsey, really.
Lacey?
