Girls:

Lorelei June (pronounced “Lora-lie”); familiarized by Gilmore Girls. I’ve actually always loved this name, but I realize it isn’t traditional or classic, which probably invites disdain since it’s not established like Charlotte; nns include Lora and Lola.

Genevieve Grace (or Genevieve Noelle); nns include Vivi, Gigi, Ginny, and Evie

Violet Isabel: Love this name, but Violet might have already been claimed by a family member

Boys:

Christopher Blake — I love Christopher Robin! And my grandma’s brother George Blake, who went by his middle name Blake, died in WW2, so I was thinking of honoring him through also calling my son by his middle name Blake. Plus, I dislike Chris as a nn. And I love William Blake!

Henry James: Literary & handsome imo, but would Peter be better?

Thanks in advance!

If you want to call him by the name Blake, why not just call him Blake Christopher?

I love Violet and Henry 😊

danascully96 · 11/08/2020 18:13

I thought Christopher Blake sounded better, but you’re right, Blake Christopher really doesn’t sound bad at all.

Thanks for your feedback!

How about Kit instead of Chris as a nn? We had that on our list for DS.

But, agree with pp that if you love the name Blake best of all, you could just go with that. I know a little Blake and a teen Blake too.

I love Henry James. Yes, it's a very literary name. I also love Peter. I prefer these to Blake, personally, but not my baby etc.

Genevieve and Lorelei are lovely! I'm not that keen on Violet, but it is nice enough.

sweetnosugar · 11/08/2020 18:24

Love Henry James!

SleepingStandingUp · 11/08/2020 18:30

I don't understand why you'd call him Christopher Blake then call him Blame day to day because Christopher Blake sounds better when you'd never use it bar a possibly christening and wedding.

Blake is nice, as is Henry.
Like all your girls, dislike Vivi with a passion and thing it's such a waste of a beautiful name

FizzyGreenWater · 11/08/2020 18:34

Like your girls names except Violet. Don't go for this - it's popular right now but it will soon fall back out of fashion and once again Vi will be associated with a narrow-eyed chain smoking harridan at the bingo.

Blake is good, I'm really struggling to see why you'd bother with Christopher at all-? it's just a part of a totally different name/character you like and your wouldn't actually call him it?

Go with Blake and have either Christopher as the middle or find an even better middle.

danascully96 · 11/08/2020 18:57

Yeah, I am gathering that the whole Christopher Blake thing may be a bit unnecessary. Lots of decisions! I feel torn because honor names can be meaningful, but I also don’t want to choose something just because I would feel guilty if I didn’t.

Right now, I’m loving Henry James and Blake Christopher. Or maybe even Henry Blake. Smile

Also, good advice about Violet! I was expecting that most people prefer the classics, and since it might already be claimed by a family member, it’s nice to know my less evergreen choices are still doable.

Don't choose a name just because you'd feel guilty if you didn't. Only choose the name you actually love best to use day to day. Honour your family member with a middle name if you like, (we did this), but the name you use day to day should be the one you love best. Smile.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/08/2020 19:01

Why would you feel guilty for not making him after your grandmother's brother? Has your grandmother or expectations on that someone should name a baby after him? He's not even a direct family member. I don't mean that distastefully just that no one will judge you for not being your child after a great uncle neither you nor your parent had relationship with

danascully96 · 11/08/2020 19:35

Fair point! So at this point, I actually do like the name Blake in general, but I also really love Henry James. I’ll just stick with Henry James since that seems to be universally loved. Thanks! Star

Lorelei June is smashing. It’s an exciting name, I really like it. In fact, I like all your girls’ names, but this is my favourite.

This made me laugh out loud Grin
Mogtheforgetfulmum · 11/08/2020 21:19

I love your boys names and I love Lorelei

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2020 22:03

Lorelei June - truly dreadful

Genevieve Grace - or Gee Gee. Not keen on Genevieve and grace is a filler mn

Violet Isabel: - Violet Elizabeth is better

Christopher Blake — fine but not if you dislike Chris. Kit is a bit rooney.

Henry James - ok. Prefer Peter

Thanks in advance!

ChanklyBore · 11/08/2020 22:21

You can’t just choose a nickname for someone else. They happen naturally, and often as a shortening - or something completely unrelated. If you hate Chris, you’d be bonkers to have Christopher. There were four Christophers in my class at school, Chris D, Chris B, Chris T and the last one was known as Toffee. The Christ part puts me off too (same with Christine, Christian)

Violet Isabel makes me think of Downton Abbey.

If you like Christopher Robin, how about Robin or Robyn?

I don’t like Lorelei at all but you do. You seem to be saying you love the names Blake and Lorelei. But are too worried about what other people think? Blake is unisex.

Mix it up until you find something you like.

Blake Robin, Blake Henry, Henry Robin, Robin Henry, Robin Blake
Lorelei Robyn, Robyn Blake. Christina Robyn, Winifred (Winnie the Pooh) Christine, Robyn Lorelei, Blake Lorelei....

Tillygetsit · 11/08/2020 22:22

I love Lorelei June. Striking and unusual.

JaJaDingDong · 11/08/2020 22:55

Do you know what the Lorelei is OP?

It's a mountain on the Rhine.

danascully96 · 11/08/2020 23:20

Yes, I’m aware, and the myth doesn’t dissuade me. Juliet is a popular name with a tragic story, Henry is popular despite King Henry VIII chopping off two of his wives’ heads, Molly means “bitter,” etc. Lorelei has a beautiful sound and its mystical aura is all the more fascinating. Plus, I don’t plan on raising a child who lures men to their death, so she will do well in making the name her own and creating a new impression for the world. Also, I’d wager that the general public will probably think of the Gilmore Girls before the legend — of course, there are names that are infamous and should never be used again, but Lorelei is not one of them. Lorelei has every right to be be revived and reinvented just like all the Juliets and Henrys throughout history.

Are you pregnant @danascully96?

danascully96 · 11/08/2020 23:28

My partner and I are in a long-term relationship and we have been discussing baby names. He likes the names I’ve chosen, but I wasn’t completely sure.

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2020 23:30

OK. Plenty of time to come up with some more then.

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 11/08/2020 23:30

@JaJaDingDong

Do you know what the Lorelei is OP? It's a mountain on the Rhine.
It's also a name.

Just as Mount Olive, Lake Constance and Mount Carmel also have names in them. There is a Helen's Bay in NI and Savannah is a town (city?) In GA, USA. I'm sure there are more, but you get the picture.

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 11/08/2020 23:33

I love Violet but I would be concerned how it was pronounced. Is it VioleT or a silent T? I guess like Charlotte, many people dont pronounce the T

lilo0 · 11/08/2020 23:40

I'm not keen on Lorelei but I like June. I think Genevieve is okay, not my style but I quite like the nicknames. I love Violet. You don't sound like you like Christopher much so I wouldn't use it if you don't like it. Blake is nice and so is Henry James

danascully96 · 12/08/2020 00:05

I pronounce it “Vy-let.”
